I have a deep love affair with a beautiful tree that was born out of this terrible disaster - well, it's legacy was born. The survivor tree was the only shade tree in the parking lot of the Murrah building and after the blast, everyone thought it was a goner. However, after the massive cleanup spring rolled around and the tattered tree bloomed. It has gone strong ever since and served as a testament to the tenacity of our great nation. Saplings from this tree have been sent around the world to places where heinous people have tried to destroy our spirit (including ground zero). This is my favorite tree in the world. I am going to Oklahoma after grad school and I am going to see it. I will probably cry.
