M-AUDIO - Studiophile BX8a Studio Reference Monitors
First to recommend
Description
Honestly I am not the biggest fan of Avid/M-Audio. Yes they make professional level music gear and software (that works), but they've kind of gotten behind with software updates/drivers. However -with that said, I would recommend M-Audio's BX8 reference monitors. Two of my cohorts recommended these monitors. I gave it a shot and happy to report it was worth the purchase. Moderately priced. Outstanding sound and frequency response. Now i just need the BX 10 bass to compliment my studio.

Description
If you're an owner of an iPhone 3G, then you should consider protecting your phone. Before I was able to get my gelskin on, I managed to get scratches on the backside. Highly recommended for the protection of your phone or iPod, but wait... there's more. The designs are awesome. Thank god they hired real designers/artists to contribute their works. My personal choice was the Steampunk design.

Saul Williams presents Niggy Tardust!
First to recommend
Description
"The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust" by Saul Williams and Trent Reznor rule my iPod playlist. Songs like Convict Colony and List of Demands will get me more amped-up than any Talib Kweli revolution. And although Erykah Badu's latest album was good, it didn't feel as complete and original as Mr. William's album. Two covers - the "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and the "Can't Hide Love" cover are weird. Never have I heard such a mutated version of Earth, Wind, & Fire's song. "World on Wheels" will make you shake your booty as if you were listening to CSS or Bonde Do Role. This is an essential hip hop album, just as I thought for sure that hip hop was dead. Outside of MF Doom or Madlib, I haven't bought a good hip hop album in ages.

Spore Origins
First to recommend
Description
I named my Spore "Sputnik". I swam out of the primordial ooze and into the fourth level before finally hitting Save & Close. Apple and EA Games have created a monster. You too can design and play your own spore for the micro price of $9.99. The graphics are interesting. The sound & music fit nicely. The customization of the characters are a blast. You can take a photo from your iPhone and incorporate it. You can load an existing image onto your spore. You can randomize the appearance or select EA Game's. Complete the different levels by eating smaller micro-organisms. Travel on until you become a higher life-form.

Walt Disney Treasures: On The Front Lines (DVD)

Description
Walt Disney's Treasures "On The Front Lines - The War Years" is one of my favorites from the Disney Treasure series. Back in the 40's during the World War, Disney created many propaganda or 'educational' films for the US Armed Forces. In response to Hitler and Japan, Disney made films such as "Der Fuhrer's Face". Today, one would question their commentary and satire, but i guess in times of war these things happen. Start with the chapter "From the Vault". Disney wasn't always 'g-rated' family fun.

Transmit (FTP)
First to recommend
Description
As the slogan says, "The next-generation Mac OS X FTP client!". Transmit 3 by Panic is the only FTP client that i still use. I could file transfer from other Mac applications, but then I wouldn't have Transmit's GUI and efficiency. You can set up a proxy, create FTP droplets for different servers, or copy and remove remote web URLs. Other killer features include SFTP & TSL/SSL, auto-permissions, and batch downloading. And guess what, this is an affordable app that makes it a necessary web tool.

ReMOTE SL Compact - MIDI Control Keyboard
First to recommend
Description
Recently purchased this 49-Key MIDI controller keyboard (ex-wishlist item). Novation's ReMOTE SL Compact is a four-octave MIDI controller that features Automap Universal. Although i am not a virtuoso keyboard player, I found the semi-weighted keys a delight to play. I was a little confused by the ReMOTE SL vs. SL 'Compact'. After reading the specs, I figured that the SL Compact was for me because of the speed-dial rotary, single screen, and assignable drum pads. Other than that, the SL differs with more sliders, an 'X'pression pad, and a pitch-mod joystick. Nice features, but I usually end-up breaking those kinds of things. The SL Compact's endless rotary is a must for certain parameters. The Automap Universal is a break-through and should hopefully end the old-fashioned way of programming and sending controller changes.
Key Features
Automap Universal
Instant control over sequencers and plug-ins. Automap Universal removes the pain and time involved in assigning MIDI parameters.
Giant 144-character LCD screen
Frees the artist from being chained to the computer screen, placing all the essential data right alongside the relevant controls.
Semi-weighted keyboard with after-touch
Delivers the feeling of playing an instrument, rather than a computer peripheral.
Speed dial and PAC technology
Ultra-fast software control for composers and performers alike; at a click, the speed dial takes control of whatever the mouse is focused on
Huge array of controls suitable for every need The artist has the exact control setup they desire, no matter how complex the plug-in.
Large programmable drum pads
Eradicates the need for separate drumpad triggers, providing the ideal platform for sketching out beats or triggering samples.

The Woman Chaser: Video
First to recommend
Description
This is easily one of those movies that slipped through the cracks. To my knowledge "The Woman Chaser" has yet to be released on DVD. The first time I saw this movie was back in 2000 at a local art-house movie-theatre. Years later I bough it on VHS. Since then, the only action my VCR-player gets is from The Woman Chaser tape. Amazon.com is selling the video for $3.03 (f#@%! ridiculous). People often say,"you get what you pay". But this is an exception. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the tape to be rewound before the next viewing.
The movie's main character (played by Patrick Warburton) is a car-dealer who feels he is wasting his life in the pursuit of money. He decides to make a movie in an attempt to find meaning in his uninspiring life. In the end, there's a big fire, a disgruntled secretary, and santa claus with a cow-bell. Filmed in black & white and based on Charles Willeford's book, The Woman Chaser is a film-noir masterpiece that is artfully perverse and woefully misunderstood. Where's the DVD?
