WaterRower - Rowing Machine

First to recommend

Description

I really dig this machine. I have never seen it in any club I've worked in, or been a member of. Maybe it's because I'm in the middle of the country, we never get the cool stuff. Anyway...

Most rowing machines use air as the form of resistance. The WaterRower is able to emluate the physical benefits of rowing through actual water. So you get the physical benefits of "real" rowing.

The WaterRower is alos eco-friendly. It is made using a selection of hardwoods, like Ash, Cherrywood and Black Walnut. Only wood from replenishable resources where more wood is planted then is harvested is used. In addition to being a replenishable resource the use of wood as a primary construction material helps alleviate carbon build-up in the atmosphere.

They have several models to choose from. Most are made of wood. But, and if you've ready any of my other recommendations, I'm partial to the stainless steel models. Because they are shiny.

Precor EFX5.37 Elliptical Crosstrainer

First to recommend

Description

I've got bad feet. No, not nasty feet, bad feet. I've got plantar fasciaitis, thanks for your concern. Because of this, running/jogging causes quite a bit of pain. But with elliptical trainers, I can work at the intensity I want, burn a lot of calories and still be able to walk the next morning. In general, elliptical trainers are non-impact, which is great for your joints. This particular elliptical allows you to adjust the stride length, so you can tailor it to fit your specific needs. If you're gonna get an elliptical, you can't beat the Precor products. Sears is great for buying a pair of Toughskins & a socket set, but not so much for home exercise equipment.

Bowflex Blaze Home Gym

First to recommend

Description

I think Bowflex makes great home gyms. The construction is durable, and the exercises are biomechanical correct & safe. A lot of people ask me if Bowflex "works". My answer is always the same. Bowflex works, as long as you use it. The Bowflex Blaze folds up and rolls away for easy storage.

Ab Coaster

Description

Yet another piece of equipment for working your abdominals. There 3 models. Two for health clubs, and one for home exercisers. The home version is less expensive, but the basic design is the same.

We don't have one in my club yet, so I haven't had the opportunity to test it out. I have watched the video on the website with the sound off, so I wasn't tempted to get caught up in the hype.

The motion looks biomechanically correct & safe, and also appears to be smooth.

The two big selling points appear to be (1) that is easy to use, even for beginning exercisers and (2) you are really able to feel it working in the lower portion of the abdominals.

I can't wait to try this out!

Under Armour | Men's HeatGear Large Logo T | Loosefit

Description

I will admit to having a personal bias when it comes to the style of workout clothes. Personally, I like my workout clothes to fit loose. I feel constricted when I wear the form fitting/tight fitness apparel. So, I really like this loose fit Underarmour t-shirt.

I love the Underarmour stuff. It's great for workouts and protecting your house.

Ladies, they have a the Loosefit HeatGear for women as well.

Under Armour Women's Heatgear Ua Interval Short Loosefit

First to recommend

Description

Personally, I'm not a fan of tight workout shorts, like spandex. If that's your thing, go for it. But fellas, at least wear a long shirt.

These are loosefit shorts from UnderArmour. I love the UnderArmour stuff, if you haven't tried them, you won't be disappointed.

The lightweight HeatGear is built with 4-way stretch and dries quickly to keep you cool.

Guys, they make loosefit shorts for men too.

New Balance MR645 (White/Navy) - New Balance Men's Running

First to recommend

Description

I am definitely a New Balance guy. I've got bad feet, and New Balance is really the only brand I've found that keeps my feet from hurting after my workouts. The MR645 is fairly new, and it comes in other colors too. A good pair of shoes can make all the difference in the world.
