I'm not a hippie, I swear! - a list by mountainlife

About this list:
Everyone I know that isn't from BC thinks I'm a hippie. I'm SO not a hippie. Just because I know what a food mile is, I eat organic, shop local, walk instead of drive, and spend the majority of my day outdoors does not make me a hippie! Here is a list of my favorite quasi-hippie things...

Positively Green cards

Description
I saw these in a store yesterday and had to stop myself from buying ALL of them. I sent one to a friend and bought another to frame for my wall... I plan on going back and getting four more to make a nice series for my wall!
These cards have beautiful quotes with equally beautiful illustrations, and are green to boot! The cards are recycled, the company has excellent environmental plans and 10% of profits are donated to two climate change organizations.

Tarte Lash Hugger Natural Eco-Friendly Mascara

This mascara is amazing. I have been hunting for a more natural or organic based mascara for a while and this was one of the only ones on the Sephora website. I gulped and splashed out $26 CDN for it, but hey, the environment and my health are worth it, right?
This mascara is paraben, phthalate, sulfate, mineral oil, propylene glycol, fragrance and sythetic dye free. If you don't know what those things are, basically they are things that have been linked to all kinds of health problems that you don't want to have.
Plus the ingredients are naturally derived, things with names that you can pronounce, like olives and water. And the tube is made out of recycled aluminum and is super cute too.
Oh, and most importantly, it goes on beautifully! Its absolutely clump free, and very natural looking. It only comes in one colour, which is a very dark brown I believe. I can't say enough about this... for an eco-friendly product its gorgeous! Splurge! I've given you enough good excuses!

Physicians Formula Organic wear 100% Natural Origin Eyeliner

Description
I just bought this and have only worn it a few times but it is AMAZING. I've been trying to reduce my use of petroleum and chemical based products and the main ingredients in this eyeliner are organic jojoba seed oil and beeswax, so that was a good start. I took a deep breath when i saw the price ($14 CDN at my drugstore) especially when I saw the cheap Bonne Belle stick next to it at $2.... but it is worth it! The liner goes on super smooth and creamy and with a little eye shadow over it, stays on all day and looks natural. The texture is very creamy and supposedly the jojoba oil moisturizes your eye area all day (not sure, but it feels like it could!)
This product is free of all kinds of toxic nasties, and looks great. Other than the cost, its a no brainer. But, isn't your health, and the health of the environment worth a bit more? When my other makeup products run out, I will be replacing them with other products from this line.

Modern Moose Mount made of Recycled Cardboard

I love this! I think this will look great over my new fireplace...very Canadiana without the creepy glass eye dead animal staring back at you. I'm not really either for or against hunting, its got its purposes I suppose, but hanging a dead animal up in your house? This is so much more deliciously ironic...

Ok I don't have one of these, but I want one, so its in the mail on the way to me. I'll pass it around to all my friends and family when I'm done figuring out what can stay and what can go...and what needs to be on a powerbar.
I'm a nerd, I know....

Sisters Secret Gourmet Granola
First to recommend
Description
On my everlong quest to eat healthy, local (ish) and organic, I stumbled upon this at first seemingly overpriced granola. Come to think of it, granola is always somewhat ridiculously priced, so this was average in that context I suppose! About $8.50 a bag I think. Anyways, WHO CARES? This stuff is like candy!!! But healthy!!! So delicious, full of all kinds of very good dried fruit (even cherries and strawberries) and it stayed moist for the (very short!) time that I had it in my cupboard! This stuff is undescribably good, you just have to try it!
Made in Vancouver too!

The Hippie Bar - Whistler's Own Bakeshop Energy Bar

Description
Everyone is a bit of a hippie at heart, no? Here in BC you have to be!!! Avoid the nag champa and just munch on some of these organic goodies to get your hippie fix.
These are insanely delicious little treats to get you through the day. Scratch that - they're not too little! They're a bit bigger than a Clif bar but chock full of good, healthy and tasty organic ingredients. Made in Whistler, BC too!
(I've also tried the Skookum variety, equally delicious!)
