Description
Worth it alone for some great eye candy pix of Keef (circa 1973 when he was one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet) and Ronnie Wood during his days with the Faces (the other most beautiful creature on the planet, back in the day). Mick, who? ;-)

Mojo Magazine
First to recommend
Description
If you have cool broad taste in music (such as you love the Faces and Primal Scream) this magazine is for you. It's British and I'm not surprised as this is only one of two music magazines that I read on a regular monthly basis (the other one being Classic Rock, which is also a British magazine). I read this from cover to cover every month. A bonus is it also comes with a CD every month. This is pricey but worth it. There is no US magazine that I'm aware of that can even come close to Mojo! I buy this every month (you can find it easily at Borders) but someday I'm going to spluge and get a subscription.

Classic Rock Magazine

Description
Don't let the name fool you. If you love current rock and what I like to call junk rock (think sleazy rock punk mix), as well as "classic rock" this magazine is for you. Every month I faithfully read Mojo and Classic Rock (which both happen to be British music magazines). I don't care for American music magazines....mainly because they cater to what is played on commercial radio and passes for rock. Bleh!! Classic Rock, features a lot of great European and underground rock bands that are just awesome (as well as having articles about great "classic" bands, such as UFO, Thin Lizzy, etc.) I can't begin to tell you how many great band recommendations I have gotten just from the "Sleaze" column in the back: Stereo Junks, Chinatown, Drugdealer Cheerleader, the list just goes on. The great band recommendations I have gotten from the Sleaze column alone for me are worth the price of the magazine. Be warned, if you are a music junkie like me this magazine will make you spend money.

Faithfull by Marianne Faithful
First to recommend
Description
One of the most candid and interesting rock biographies I've ever read. If you want to at all understand the dynamic of the Stones (especially Mick and Keith.....and truly its only Keef I care about myself) and get some profound insights and observations this is the book for you. Marianne is very candid and direct about her life. I can't recommend this one enough.

John Peel: Margrave of the Marshes
First to recommend
Description
Who is John Peel you ask? If you are a music junkie like myself I suspect you might already know the answer to that question. If you don't know who he is, read his wonderful story and find out. In brief, for those who are not familiar with him, John Peel was a champion of underground music of all kinds, especially punk and reggae. He had a radio show on BBC Radio 1 from 1967 until he passed too soon in 2004. I highly, highly recommend this book. If you are a fan of underground music, punk or reggae, whether you know it or not, you are in debt to some degree to John Peel. Read this book and discover a new friend, or rediscover an old one.

Up and Down With the Rolling Stones by Tony Sanchez
First to recommend
Description
"Spanish" Tony Sanchez was part of the Rolling Stones inner circle and Keith Richard's drug dealer for many years. This is his story told my him. Some of the tales told seem pretty tall (but could also be very true). If you are interested in the Stones in the 60's and 70's (truly its Keef I'm interrested in) this is yet another insight and perspective on the bigger picture.

Johnny Thunders: In Cold Blood by Nina Antonia
First to recommend
Description
Great biography of Johnny Thunders. One of my idols. I really felt that Nina Antonia did an awesome job on this. Great pix too. If you have no idea who Johnny Thunders was, or want to know more about him. this will give you great insight. If you are already a fan and haven't read this, it will give you more insight into the man, and his a good history of his music.

Moon: The Life and Death of a Rock Legend by Tony Fletcher

Description
Keith Moon was arguably one of the best rock drummers EVER! You really need to know about him. The Who were punk rock before punk rock existed.

Ronnie Wood's Smile: and where it led by Wendy Ellison Mullen
First to recommend
Description
I read almost this entire book in one sitting (I only stopped because I had to get some sleep for work the next day). This is one of the most entertaining books I've ever read. It also deals with one of my favorite people on the planet, Ronnie Wood. This is the story of how the author got throughly and utterly enchanted by one of Ronnie's amazing smiles at a Stones show. That was all it took and she was hooked and over time became an expert on all things Ronnie (her website, slideonron is awesome). She also became evolved in the world of the hard core Rolling Stones fans. This book is the story of her adventures in search of all things Ronnie! I was drawn to this book because of my love of Ronnie, but you don't have to be a Ronnie fan nor for that matter a Stones fan to enjoy this awesome book.

Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me by Pattie Boyd, Penny Junor
First to recommend
Description
If you are unfamiliar with Pattie Boyd, she was part of one of the greatest love triangles in rock music history. She was first married to George Harrison and while married to him Eric Clapton fell hopelessly in love with her (she eventually married Clapton and was also the inspiration for the song Layla, among many others written by Clapton). She also had a brief fling with my beloved Ronnie Wood (how she could not have picked him over Harrison and Clapton is beyond me) ;-)
I am very excited to read this. It should be fascinating. It comes out August 28th. I've already pre-ordered mine. How about you?
