Description
I have mixed feelings about a product like this. On the one hand I think that everyone should pack a heavy dose of Personal Responsibility on a motorcycle tour. On the other, shit happens. (can I say that here?) I've met quite a few solo riders out traveling through some crazy places in Alaska and Central and South America, and crazy things happen in crazy place, often far and away beyond the control of the rider. I'm even thinking of a solo trip to the Baja myself, and if something happened and I couldn't get back to civilization, well, a push of the button and Civilization would instantly know I was out there and in need of assistance. Which reminds me, I think it's time to renew my medvac insurance!

Here's how to turn your iPod into a storage container for your photos when you are traveling. I'm going to get one of these before heading to Morocco next year and try it out.

Apple 160 GB iPod classic (Black)

Description
I've had my old 40GB iPod for 3 years now, and it still runs strong. However the battery life has never been enough for a really long day at work, let alone 2 if I forget to charge it at night, and my music collection long surpassed it's capacity ages ago. 160 GB would hold all my music and a few movies for the occasional plane trip. Better yet, it could store photos from the camera when I'm travelling.

Sonic Impact Portable iPod Speaker System

Description
I have the speaker system for iPod that Sonic Impact first put out a couple years ago. It has great sound and was a joy to travel with. This system steps up to the new iPods with drives large enough to hold movies, but displays that seem too small to comfortably watch them.

I brought one of these on my motorcycle trip to South America. It was probably the largest, heaviest "non-essential" item on the trip. It has a built in rechargeable battery so it's perfect for camping, or those spots where the electricity goes off at night. It also charges the iPod when the unit is plugged in, so you don't need to carry a separate iPod charger. The sound is really surprisingly good for such a small sound system.

Hold on folks. I thought the stunt plane was cool. This plane allows me to tie in my photography habit too! VGA images from hundreds of feet off the ground. I want this to photograph my Burning Man camp!!!

I've always wanted a remote controlled airplane, and this looks like a fun one. If I were a good son I would buy one for my dad since I know he's always wanted one too. I like that it is electric instead of those dirty little gas engines that most of the older remote controlled aircraft would use.

Waterproof Action Video Camera

Description
One of these days I'm going to get one of these little sports video cameras. This one is close to my dream specs, it's 8 ounces and 4.3 inches long. It could be fun to take snowboarding, mountain biking, motorcycling, and even to Burning Man (as long as you don't take stealth videos - No Stealth Videos - OK?) I supposed every year they'll get smaller and cooler. Now if I could just get my friends to do more crazy things - "Hey Russ, if you jump off that cliff I'll take your picture!"

I don't use PC's, but back when I did, I really, really, really needed one of these. Now when your computer is doing something bizarre, something unexplainable, something that just pisses you off, you can actually axe the damn thing and watch the screen shatter - all without hurting a thing (via NY Times)
