Description
Jean-Luc Godard. My favorite Godard movie is Bande a part (Band of Outsiders), largely in part because I adore Anna Karina. Not to mention the dance and a run through the Louve.

Harold and Maude

Description
My favorite movie ever. From the opening scene, the soundtrack is perfect, you watch as Harold prepares and then hangs himself. This is one of several brilliant scenes where he fakes his own suicides desperately trying to get the attention of his rich mother. Enter Maude, an eccentric old woman he meets at a funeral. It's a love story. A love story with life.

I looooooove "Amelie". I caught it by chance in the park at the Telluride Film Festival way back in the day before it hit big. I was bundled up, there were fireflies, and there was Amelie. Perfect.

This is Wong Kar-Wai, a man with a very distinct vision in his movies. I also love the music and the dresses she wears in this film.

Night on Earth - Criterion Collection
First to recommend
Description
Jim Jarmusch's film that is an ensemble piece with a very simple premise: take one moment in time and visit five cab rides that are happening in different parts of the world. Of course some of cab rides are better than others but overall this is a great movie.

Baraka

Description
Directed by Ron Fricke, the cinematographer of Koyaanisqatsi, Baraka wordlessly conveys the Earth-bound experience over the course of a day, spanning topics from the marvel of natural beauty and the destruction of nature to man's relationship with his surroundings, religion, and himself. The collection of images, set to a score by Michael Sterns, is meditative, insightful, and beautiful.

A very gritty movie but really good. If violence makes it squeamish, or you don't like subtitles, this movie is not for you
