Online MASH Game

First to recommend

Description

Remember playing MASH (Mansion-Apartment-Shack-House) at recess? Well now your kids (oh face it, you're going to do it yourself like I just did) can play it online.

This was a lot of fun actually. What was disturbing was that I took the time to replay it four times until I liked my outcome. Sigh.

Just put the cursor on each circle and fill in an answer. When you've done them all, click start.

Ministry of Sound Radio

First to recommend

Description

I know, you're already a trendsetter. As am I darling, as am I.

Ok maybe 'not so much' when it comes to me. I was, after all, recently spotted making the dreaded "rock on" hand signal while failing entirely to find the beat on the dance floor. Sigh. I can't cover ALL the bases ALL of the time.

Fine. The truth.

"Hello, my name is Fiona and I can't dance. Well, except the jig."
So I'm focusing my expertise on keeping up with the musicians since the beat gave me the finger and ran away years ago. I use Ministry of Sound's 24/7 radio not only for personal enterainment but also as musical Cliff Notes to see what's up and who's up and coming. And, it could be said, to hear the songs I will NOT be dancing to.

Shh.. don't tell anyone I'm really not that cool. Well except for the people who saw me dancing. They already know that.

Caffeine Viewer (caffeine usage arcs)

First to recommend

Description

several visualizations of real-time coffee consumption tracked by hacking a real (& online) coffee machine. the arcs graph shows the average time caffeine remains in the body. the circles applet represents individual days as unique circles. circles are positioned based on the time coffee was taken, while color saturation & size convey the quantity of coffee.

an open, online API, allows anyone to create alternative visualizations of the coffee usage dataset.

Tag Galaxy

Description

Warning: ADDICTIVE!

This is just about the coolest damn thing I've seen in awhile in terms of online photo toys.

Basically, it's a flickr photo search via tags. You start out by entering your first key word. "Pinups" for example. Then more sub-choices pop up. Keep clicking on your sub-tags until you've narrowed your choice to what you are looking for. Then click the globe in the center and the app gathers the applicable photos from flickr and plants them on the spinning globe. You can then use your mouse to spin the globe and angle it.

LOVE THIS!

Detailed digg Scatterplots

First to recommend

Description

stamen design | A day of Diggs and a thin blue line

"a set of detailed pixel scatterplots of digg activity. the time of day that a digg occurred is represented horizontally, midnight to midnight, Pacific Standard Time. the vertical axis indicates story ID, with the newest at the top, & the oldest at the bottom. color denotes the amount of time a user has been a member.

some apparent patterns: submissions are slow during the early morning hours & evenings, people digg in stories in time sequence (or reverse sequence), & some stories are dugg only by new users (or, in fact, some stories are so strong people became members specifically to digg them). "

Zoomii Books - The "real" bookstore online

First to recommend

Description

Courtesy of Ars Technica:

Zoomii-a new service that hopes to bring some of the visual thrill back to browsing books online.

Zoomii, in a nutshell, is a visual bookshelf browser for over 19,000 books from Amazon's catalog, though it can search for over 162,000 titles. Instead of browsing through flat lists of book titles and their cold statistics, Zoomii stacks books in shelves alphabetically by author, organized by genre. You can click and drag across Zoomii's landscape of shelves, zoom in and out with your scrollwheel, and click a book's cover for basic statistics from Amazon, including the ability to add the book to your cart or wishlist. Why Are You Such An Asshat?

First to recommend

Description

I have been a huge fan of Mikeink for awhile now. Sassy, salty and crisply delivered html-coded graphics to add to your blog or social site's profile.

I've seen these dozens of times by now and for some reason still can't read the word "asshat" without cracking up.

Wait. Just had "A Moment." I would bet good, green money that "still can't read the word "asshat" without cracking up" is a phrase my own mother has never uttered. Sigh. I need another cocktail.

I added several other ones to the pictures area......
