About this list:
I eat. Every day in fact. And I love food. I love buying it, I love making it, I love smelling it, I love taking it places, I love going somewhere particular to quell a craving, I don't really like cleaning it up though. In any case, this list is all things food (and maybe even beverage) - be they delicious, adorable, weird, fancy, simple, whatever. Yum.

Pie in a Jar
First to recommend
Description
If you're crafty and/or into baking, and your giftee has a sweet tooth and is into the whimsy, this is a perfect option.
I got my best friend "Pie in a Jar" once as a gift because I thought it was absolutely hilarious and bizarre and now it's like, a thing.
Make the most of it and rock on with your bad self since these are adorable.
Allrecipes.com and instructables.com also offer up directions for pie in a jar fun.

Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar

Description
Another great gift option for the crafty/bakey among us. This can easily be subbed out for other specialties you may make if chocolate chip is just too vanilla for you.
It's almost like giving away delicious baked goods, but with far less work on your end. Score!

Vanilla Sugar Recipe

Description
Maybe the hostess you want to thank is also the baker. Leave it to her then, but at least help to make it fun with something like this. I have a jar of vanilla sugar at home and it is so amazing sprinkled on top of stuff with its warm vanilla fragrance. It's also fab in stuff like lemonade. NOM.

Spiced Pecans

Description
Spiced nuts are an outrageously tasty and easy gift, even for those of you out there who don't cook much. All you have to do here is measure and not burn. Tricky yes, but SO worth the results.
Perfect to bring to dinner parties for your host/hostess.

Caramel Bourbon Vanilla Sauce

Feeling Martha-y? Don't let me stop you. I would totally make a big old batch of this to use as hostess gifts for all of those holiday parties that everyone else will be bringing a bottle of wine to.

Breakfast basket
First to recommend
Description
If you know it's going to be a rager or that your hostess will have a mean case of dishpan hands from cleaning up the night before, why not take a little stress out of her day by offering to make breakfast? You don't even have to be there.
* please note that Dunkin donuts or pastries from your favorite bakery are acceptable alternatives to freshly made scones and preserves if you say, have a day job to attend to.

Were you tasked with bringing dessert to the dinner party? Live near a Humphrey Slocombe, Bi-Rite, Mitchell's or other fancy schmancy gourmet ice creamery where a pint of ice cream is actually a gourmet dessert? Ta DAAAAA!
