HOPE: Barack Obama Campaign Poster - By Shepard Fairey

First to recommend

Description

You'd have to have been there at the time, posters and stickers designed By Shepard Fairey changed the atmosphere surrounding the 2008 U.S. Presidential race. Maybe it was the power of simplicity, the power of a gentle but inspirational word, or maybe it was the masterful use of image making that made this poster as recognizable as the Che Guevara image which came before it, or maybe it was because the subject was of a leader that wasn't looking down on the people, anyway it was a poster that got my hart beating with the longing for positive change. Thank you Shepard Fairey for this.

The House of Viktor & Rolf - Barbican Art Gallery

First to recommend

Description

The cult of fashion meet the cult of the doll at the Barbican Art Gallery (18 June 2008 - 21 September 2008). Barbie must be devastated.

The Dutch designers have spent the last year and a half overseeing the creation of dolls, each wearing a painstakingly scaled-down version of one of their noteworthy catwalk looks. (via Luxury Culture)

Its a brand new version of a 1920's era board track racing motorcycle!!! Jah-da! it's a killer hybrid, something between a Schwinn and a Ducati, just look at it, it can be pedaled or propelled via engine power, or pedaled with the assistance of engine power, and uh no drivers license is required. ^_^

Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll: The Official Website

Description

Unlike capturing images from life, personal visions of imagination are constantly shifting and are by nature finicky and nearly impossible to access or capture. In "Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll" Marilyn Manson, his magicians Alain de la Mata, Steven Klein and Benoît Debie evoke the sleepless heartache which once clung to the personality Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll).

Personally I'm exited by the casting choices for this movie, as well as what may or may not be introduced into the ever expanding redefinition of horror genre.

Beatles ipod, etc.. Bloomingdales

Description

Way back in 2008 Bloomingdales unleashed the first ever designer collection of apparel and accessories inspired by The Beatles, including and illusive (Bloomingdale's-packaged) 2,500-unit-limited edition Beatles iPod, the t-shirts and stuff are a nice side show to the music, but does the ipod really exist?

Chris Maker - La Jetee: cine-roman

First to recommend

Description

More than any other film Chris Maker's "La Jetee" influenced my way of viewing cinema, as well as my way of creating art. I think of this book of images from "La Jetee" is a treasure.

About this book: "This book version of La Jetée is, to my mind, astonishingly beautiful. It brings a total freshness to the work and a new way to use photos to deal with dramatic events. Not a film's book, but a book in its own right--the real ciné-roman announced in the film's credits."
--Chris Marker

La Jetée, the legendary science fiction film about time and memory after a nuclear apocalypse, was released in 1964 and is considered by many critics to be among the greatest experimental films ever made. (It provided the basis for Terry Gilliam's 1995 film 12 Monkeys.) Chris Marker, who is the undisputed master of the film essay, composed this postapocalyptic story almost entirely of black-and-white still photographs. The story concerns an experiment in recovering and changing the past through the action of memory, yet the film can be read as a poem dominated by a single moving image, which in its context becomes one of the supreme moments in the history of film.

This Zone Books edition reproduces the film's original images along with the script in both English and French.
