Four-Channel Timer
First to recommend
Description
I use this in lab all the time. The four channels allow you to time the four different things you're trying to do at once, and the different beeps let you know which thing you've completely forgotten about while doing the other three things.
At home, I use this in the kitchen to time cookies in the oven, to remember when a television show is coming on, and to bully myself into cleaning. I set it for 30 minutes and then spend that time cleaning. I don't have to stop to look at the clock and sigh because I know it will beep at 30 minutes.
This timer can both time up and down making it useful for when you're on hold with some company - "Ive been on hold for 17 minutes and 37 seconds, this is completely unreasonable"
These run around 25 bucks, but you can probably find them cheaper if they aren't certified by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology).
Other than office supplies, these are the items most likely to be stolen from lab by the people who work there.

Swingline stapler
First to recommend
Description
Why do I love a stapler? It works. It staples lengthy journal articles and I haven't felt the need to swear at it much. We have two at work and people covet them. This stapler is designed to be able to staple 60 pages without breaking a sweat.
One warning: it uses special staples - so be ready to buy a whole bunch.
