Tin "Steam Boat"

Description

This tin boat runs on the steam produced by a small candle placed in the holder. It reminds me of those old movies you see where a kid in Central Park is playing with a beautiful wooden sailboat he bought at a dime store, and instead of thinking about whether George Peppard is about to get killed by a private dick over his illicit affair with the highly underrated Patricia Neal, you're thinking - ten cents? For that? That thing is awesome! Why don't they make those anymore?

A sturdy, locally made Mexican bag made of natural fiber. It's one of the few objects out there that manages to be stylish in a Summer in the Hamptons way while maintaining some serious street cred. ($17.50 at Kiosk)

swedish military overnight bag

Description

Now this is a cool bag. An authentic Swedish military bag, suppossedly recognizable by many Europeans. The shop owner saw it at an airport and tracked it down. What a great find. How come the Swedes have such better looking military bags than ours in the U.S.?

Useful (insulated!) + attractive (silver!) + good back story (produced by a 70 year old man in the Shizuoka Prefecture for the past 40 years) = good conversation piece after you've unpacked the dessert you brought to the potluck. ($8 at Kiosk)
