Zap Scooter

First to recommend

Description

Great for Los Angelenos for obvious reasons: space savers, air savers, fuel savers. Why whizz around in a sportscar when you can ZAP around town on one of these?

McGlasson weeHouse

Description

Perfect writer's retreat... dropped in by a crane to an ideal locale! Closest I'll ever come to having a flying house. (I don't think the crane is included in the price. But what do you want for under 100K?)

MUTINY ON THE RINGS

First to recommend

Description

Buy the DVD on www.mutinyontherings.com or in person at Santa Monica original muscle beach, south of the Santa Monica pier where ringmaster Bruno Angelico swings every Sunday (French guy in a beret). The DVD captures L.A.'s unique "subculture" of renegades at Venice Beach's traveling rings + allows ground-bound viewers to vicariously fly.

Warning: Don't try to wear one of his suits to your next business meeting. Recommended for underwater diving only.

Get a Takashi Murakami print or T-shirt from the Giant Robot Store, West L.A.

Chinatown LA

First to recommend

Description

The movie by Roman Polanski was great, but the surREAL Chinatown in downtown L.A. is even better. Via Cafe = great ambience + food + view, especially during Chinese New Year. Bring cash.

molo design soft wall

First to recommend

Description

Freestanding, lightweight, expandable "honeycomb" partition wall made of paper. Genius design, renewable materials... great for a person like me with a loft. Removes the notion of fixed, static living. Creates malleability of space.

DUTTON'S BRENTWOOD BOOKSTORE

First to recommend

Description

A dusty book from: Dutton's Books in Brentwood or Cliff's Books in Pasadena both stores are the "real deal" and overstuffed to maximize possibilities for random discoveries. Support independent, locally owned booksellers! What a concept!
