My Staff Picks - a list by Jenilynn

About this list:

Every week at ThisNext we're challenged with a Staff Picks theme to base recommendations on. Sometimes I'm way into it (like when it's books or music), sometimes not so much. Either way, these are my weekly staff picks.

A Fine Balance - Rohinton Mistry

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

You should probably read this when you're incredibly depressed about your own life. You'll then realize how much of a silly ass you are because it's nowhere near as bad as the people in this book. Set in India in the 1970's, at every point you just think that it can't get worse and then surprise! it does.

The Kite Runner: Khaled Hosseini: Books

First to recommend

Description

A really amazing book once you can get through the traumatic event that starts the story. Seriously, it's a little hard to take, but it's a great story after that.

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

First to recommend

Description

I had a lot of people hyping up 100 Years of Solitude before I read it and found it to be really disappointing. This is in my opinion the better Marquez book. Gives another meaning to "True Love Waits" that doesn't make me want to laugh.

Apparently all the cool kids are wearing croakies these days. When you're playing volleyball you won't loose your sunglasses at the bottom of the pool with these babies.

Grilling Gift Baskets: BBQ Gift Basket

Description

I live 3500 miles away from my dad, so he's definitely getting something delivered for father's day. He also likes to think he's very manly and barbecuing falls under manly activities. Solution: bbq gift basket.

PINK HANGOVER RECOVERY KIT

Description

Extra partying on a long weekend means that some of us are going to be an extra hot mess. At least you can have pretty pink things to make it a bit better when you really just feel like crawling in front of a bus.

Keychain Digital Photo Viewer

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

SLEEK SILVER VERSION: One of the hot gifts this year is a digital photo keychain. Either pre-load photos for friends or family, or let them load their own; either way it's a fun little digital brag book! Now don't expect miracles with its 1.5" LCD screen which has a screen resolution of 128 x 128 pixels, but for a gift, this is great. This SILVER FRAME VERSION of the Digital Foci Pocket Album holds as many as 74 pictures (depending on size, in JPEG or BMP format) with its 8MB of Internal memory. It has a battery life of 9 hours, rechargeable via USB or USB-AC power adapter. You can set it to scroll photos manually or run an automatic photo slideshow. Comes with Windows 2000-and-up compatible Photo Viewer Software. Pocket Album measures 2.2" x 1.6" x 0.5" and weighs only 1.2 oz.

RECOMMENDATION: I highly recommend buying PDA (Palm pilot) plastic screen protectors and cutting down to size to cover this LCD display to protect from scratches. Alternatively you could use clear packaging tape, but the screen protectors are inexpensive and peel off easily to be replaced. These protectors are also great for digital phones, cameras and other small electronics with LCD screens that can be scratched but need to be seen. SEE MY RECOMMENDATION FOR UNIVERSAL SCREEN PROTECTORS ON THIS GIFT LIST.

I literally have 8 different pots or tubes of lipgloss in my purse at any given moment. It's a compulsion and I can't stop.
