Swami Conversational Robot
First to recommend
Description
Fortune tellers and their tired revelations. "I sense you are in love!" as they spot your ring and hit you up for 20 bucks. Yawn. A cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence robot that recognizes family members, can carry on conversations, develops relationships, and answers questions with fact-based advice, now that's going to freak out the kids. Say, "Hey" to the Swami.
The OMG factor on this dude is off the charts. You'll swear he's human, right down to his facial expressions. How does he do it? Revolutionary character-engine artificial intelligence software. Micro-camera eyes. More than 30 robotic micro motors. All running off a PC laptop (included, of course).
Teach him to wink every time the wife walks by. Name him Mortimer. Pack him up in his suitcase and take the show on the road. OS platform? Memory cache? USB ports?

When I first saw this I wasn't in a position to spend frivolously but then I saw that it was on the list of one of my credit card rewards lists, so I got it.
I tend to forget to charge my cell phone until we've just gone beyond the moment when there'd be time to do so. With this baby charged up (when I do think of it) I can just take it, the phone and the cord and charge on the way...

J.H. Lartigue: The Family Album of a Gilded Age (1966 Hardcover Limited Edition)
First to recommend
Description
Only my favorite coffee table book of all time. Well that and all of my other favorites. Lartigue was given a camera as a young boy in the late 1800's and he chronicled his life in France in photos until the war began in 1914. It really is The Gilded Age as he shows everything from wild self-built toys, to the innovation of cars to crazy imaginative flying machines. Women on the beach in full dress with umbrellas, and men swimming in pants, waistcoat and jackets. The progression of fashion and drumbeat towards war - all shown through the eyes of a boy with his diminutive camera whose work is so remarkable it rivals anything seen today.
