Margaritatini: none of the melt, all the olé. - a list by Alyson

About this list:
I may not be Ben Franklin and his kite, but hopefully my small discovery will get you equally lit. Pour tequila into ice-filled shaker. Stop only when you're certain there's too much. Splash it with cointreau. Squeeze in key limes until you're bored. Shake it like a polaroid. Run a lime slice around part of the rim of your martini glass. Dip it in Kosher salt. Dip it again in aleppo pepper. Pour shaker contents into glass. Sip at your leisure... it won't get weak from melted ice!

Description
Everyone must own at least one decent shaker. Proper use of this powerful tool can rival the efficacy of the best antidepressant.

Sauza Hornitos Tequila

Description
It's probably a good idea to use a decent tequila in your margaritatini since the there's no ice to dilute the bite if one were to risk using some rotgut. "Rotgut." A good word. A word my mother would use, which is funny because it's even too old fashioned for her. But she's good at keeping arcane bits of the English language alive. Which is has everything to do with decent tequila... because, in both cases, life's too short to compromise oneself with the banal.

Melissa's Fresh Key Limes

Description
Never, never, ever use that faux lime juice concoctions in your margaritatinis. You owe it to your tastebuds and to your vigilant battle against scurvy.
What I recommend here are key limes, which are ever-so slightly sweeter than regular limes. Also, they're cuter.
Also, does it strike anyone else as bizarre that you can order fresh limes from Amazon? I feel compelled to point at my screen and say, "Look, it's the future."

Curing: Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt

Description
Rim your margaritatini with kosher salt. The little crystals are far more delighful than plain old salt grains. Also, the flavor's richer... not "saltier," per se, just better.

Stemless Martini Glass

Description
Any old martini glass will do for a margaritatini, but i like these because they're less tippy when you're tipsy. And the removal of the stem speaks to the minimalist in me.

Aleppo Pepper

Description
Aleppo pepper is a little off book for rimming a margarita glass, mostly because pepper is not typically used in this way but also due to the fact that Aleppo pepper is middle eastern ranther than Mexican.
I buy mine from Kalustyans, the online Armenian-owned spice and cooking sundry superstore.
Its rich flavor adds warmth without too much spice. I know, you're scared. Trust me. It won't hurt as much as you think. Ya know, just don't try it when you have chapped lips.
