Old Stone 16-Inch Round Oven Pizza Stone

First to recommend

Description

Homemade pizza never tastes the same as what comes from the local pizzeria because you don't have a stone oven. The pizza stone sort of recreates that in a home oven by heating evenly and retaining heat.

Bialetti Pizza Peel

First to recommend

Description

Perhaps the greatest contribution to "American" food from Italy is pizza, but let's not think about Pizza Hut, Domino's and Papa John's. Make it at home in your oven the way Italian people do. The Biaetti Pizza Peel has solid wood construction, tapered edge to easily slides under pizza, loop for easy storage.

OXO Good Grips 4-inch Pizza Wheel

OXO might not be authentic Italian, but they sure make useful, easy-to-handle gadgets like their pizza wheel.

All Clad Panini Pan with Press

First to recommend

Description

An electric panini press is fine, but if you don't have storage or counter top space for the bulk of a machine, All Clad's Panini pan with Press will let you make delicious toasted panini filled with melted cheese right on your stovetop.

Mario Batali 8-Piece Melamine Mixing Bowl Set

First to recommend

Description

It seems that much of regional Italian cooking is done directly on the stovetop - just chop the ingredients and send them straight into the cooking pot. However, when there are times that mixing must be done, Mario Batali has a set of melamine mixing bowls in a very "Italian" color, pesto.

Mario Batali Measuring Spoons in Persimmon

First to recommend

Description

My guess is that the little old Italian ladies in their tiny cottages in the countryside have never used a measuring spoon in their lives, but then again, they've been doing this for years and are probably born with a natural ability to measure olive oil, vinegar, and herbs. For us plebes, we can use Mario Batali's melamine measuring spoons that are double sided and magnetic for ease of storage. Of course, it has to be the persimmon orange color in honor of Batali's orange clogs.

Olive Wood Mortar and Pestle Set

First to recommend

Description

You probably won't be able to get your hands on basil grown under the Sicilian sun to make authentic basil pesto, but at the very least, you can make it in a mortar and pestle like they do, not in a food processor.

Henry Watson's Large Garlic Cellar

First to recommend

Description

We would never in our right minds ever recommend either a garlic peeler nor, God forbid, a garlic press, for a true cook would just smash those cloves with the side of large chef's knife and start mincing. However, a garlic CELLAR is a good thing to have to keep garlic fresh on the countertop. The terra cotta is dishwasher safe, and has large holes for ample ventilation.

Fresh grated parmigianno reggiano is a must to finish off a number of Italian cheese, and this one from Nigella Lawson is not only cute with its round shape, but easy to handle.

Italian Herb Garden Kit

Description

Sure, there are times when you might crack open that tiny bottle of crushed dried basil, like...never! You need fresh basil, along with other herbs, so grow your own right on the windowsill in your kitchen.
