Creativity Kit - a list by Nicole

About this list:
When you're a kid you don't think twice about pretending with barbies, making up stories and letting your mind go where it takes you. As an adult the majority of us lose the ability to allow our minds to tap in to the child-like view of anything being possible. These are some things I use to keep in touch with my inner kid to make sure my imagination still has a place to run wild, aside from my own day dreams that is.

Word of Mouth Marketing: How Smart Companies Get People Talking

Description
Andy Sernovitz knows his stuff and thanks to this book now I know it too.
Althought a lot of it is not "new" it is a great reminder and incredibly motivating. This past week I hit chapter 4 in the WOM book and was practically pumping my fist in the air while yelling, "Yes, exactly! This is what we need to be doing!"
ThisNext is full of interesting users with passionate voices and unique viewpoints. How do we, as a company, reach them to let them know how valued they are and give them opportunities to amplify their voice? Andy's book has given me a ton of ideas.
Be on the lookout ThisNext'ers...we got a lot in store for you.

fashion plates

Description
Last week the ladies at ThisNext got nostalgic about the toys we loved when growing up. The various ways some of them helped train us for what we are today. All agreed Fashion Plates was no exception. The mix-and-match fun could go on for hours.
I think it's about time Fashion Plates were resurrected for a new generation to unlease their creative genius. Seems a perfect parent/kid bonding toy for anyone who grew up in the 80's.

Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity

Description
Knowing that David is a big meditator I expected to encounter chapters lecturing about meditation. What I found instead were true pearls of wisdom that speak right to the heart of anyone who strives to keep their creative streak strong. He doesn't preach, he doesn't say what is right or wrong, he just speaks what's worked for him.
It's an easy read that's fun and insightful. I walked away with several actionable items that have already influenced by creative process. A must own.
Just make sure and put your name in the book because friends will want to borrow it and you may never see it again.

Buy everything from this artist. Heard him awhile ago and is one of my favorites although he's not very big in the states yet. Good beats, thoughtful message and each album is golden. A good mix of R&B and hip-hop vibe with some singing and spoken word. The first two albums are on iTunes and the latest, Atlantis, is on Amazon.
It's all good but some of my faves...

Play-Doh

Description
At my old office I kept a huge box of Play-doh and associated toys. We would break it out for mandatory play time where people were free to create what they wanted and keep it on their desk to show off. I found it helpful to have when when the people I worked with were going through a stressful time. They would take a chunk and squeeze it like a stress ball as they talked. The kit was a great use of time when the power went out and we couldn't get any work done. Instead, a group of us broke out the box and brainstormed ideas for the client while creating play-doh goodies.

Crayons! Colors! Fun!
I always had the big box and a small box handy when I was a kid. In addition to loving coloring (but not being blessed with an artist hand) I would go through a new box every few months. A favorite activity was combining all the crayon shavings and then ironing it between wax paper to make a cool stained-glass type chunk, pretty!
I still keep a box handy along with some markers and go at a coloring book. Just becuase I'm not a kid anymore doesn't mean I have to stop playing like one.
