About this list:
These are gifts that reflect some kind of charitable donation upon purchasing. Buy a shirt, save a life. Adopt a whale, support their conservation. Seems like a no brainer to me!

Description
I love the idea of spreading the word with something we wear. They have adult and children sizes. How awesome would it be to see a three year old claiming she saved a life?
Each purchase of a t-shirt funds lunch for a child in Ghana for an entire year. Handnumbered, sweatshop free, eco-friendly inks. (via Rare Bird Finds)

"These gorgeous felt rugs have been a part of the Kazakh heritage for generations. Completely handcrafted, each rug features a striking design of traditional Kazakh symbols. Durable enough for indoor and outdoor use, they also make unique yoga mats! Although sizes vary slightly, they are approximately 22 inches by 44 inches." (via The Snow Leopard Trust)

Adopt-A-Creature
First to recommend
Description
A little too late for Christmas, but this is always a great way to get kids involved and contribute to something bigger - while educating! Oceana focuses on specific campaigns to help make the ocean a better place.
There are 14 creatures to pick from and two other non-creature choices. With a $35 donation, you will recieve a cookie cutter of your adoptee, a cookie recipe, adoption papers, and info on the ocean, and $75 will get you four cookie cutters. Of course, these are small tokens/representations of the things you support. (via treehugger.com)

Orca Adoption Program Packages
First to recommend
Description
Great for a Show and Tell at school!
As Steve Irwin said, "If love something, you'll want to save it."
BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE:
This adoption package is different because it isn't just a general species you adopt, but a specific orca. The area has 3 resident pods that spend a lot of time in the San Juan Islands (very cool islands, great for kayaking and whale watching- definately recommend it). The pods are J, K, and L pods and each one is a close-knit family, offspring stay with the parents. These whales were recently added to the endangered species list, because they are genetically different from other orcas. Their numbers are drastically declining (all together have less than 90 individuals). It is completely possible that they will become extinct. So please, please, please support this cause!
INCLUDES:
You get lots of stuff with this contribution (non-profit), including: a biography of your whale, a booklet about the Southern Resident Orcas, genealogy charts, a newsletter and much more! They also have a very cool Classroom Adoption Package for teachers.
One last thing, how cool would it be to make it a priority to take a vacation to the area and have a chance to spot "your" whale! It doesn't get more personal than that!

The Nature Conservancy: Adopt an Acre
First to recommend
Description
For the Rescue the Reef program. You get lots of stuff for $50 bucks an acre (including a subscription to the Nature Conservancy).
If aren't already aware, the world's coral reefs are in danger of becoming a thing of the past (exaggeration? --no). Rising temps cause coral bleaching, and since reefs are an important ecosystem, all the other animals that depend on it will die also. Input "coral bleaching" into the search engine and take a look.
Again, great idea for gifts or kids and adults.

Description
Great idea for an animal lover. Ok, who isn't? Wouldn't we all love a bucket of frogs as a representation of our adoption of the threatened amphibian? They have been dwindling in numbers - even the ones in our backyard, so they need all the help they can get.
Choose from 91 animals (penguins, bats and bonobos, oh my).

Made By Survivors Store
First to recommend
Description
Cute items collaged with and a good cause. These crafts are made by survivors of human trafficking. This isn't a downer ~ this is amazing that these people have come together to tell their story and help those still being enslaved. It's only a downer if people like us choose not see how beautiful supporting them is. (via cool mom picks)
