ThisNext: Inside the office of a start-up - a list by LaurenMessiah

About this list:

I know many of you think that the ThisNext office is some big giant skyscraper with millions of computers, secretaries, fancy coffee machines and all that jazz. The reality is, we are an internet start-up company. We are a bunch of crazy-fun people in an open office with whole lotta "charm". Call us shabby-chic if you'd like or frugal-furnishers but we are happy as clams in our space. Check out this list to find out what it's like inside the ThisNext offices.

Qualifications:

I know a bit about this place ;)

Stool - Sit Star Blue (Blue)

First to recommend

Description

When I first started working at ThisNext over a year and a half ago, our office was short on furniture to say the least. Since I was the "new girl" my chair was the blue stool. It was something like this stool here but not nearly as nice. Sitting on a stool all day is never fun now matter how you spin it -- well unless you spin around in it because that's pretty darn fun.

Fatboy Original - Red

4 people recommended this item

Description

When we were in our smaller office, we decided we needed a comfortable place to crash. A couch just wasn't in the cards -- we simply didn't have the room. So we got a bunch of Fatboys; 2 bigs ones and 4 of the little ones. I have sat in these during meetings, I have slept on these, I have even tripped over a few of them. Now that we are in our bigger office we did step up and get a couch. Don't think for a minute that we got right of our Fatboys, those are here to stay.

IKEA - FÄRJA Work lamp

First to recommend

Description

IKEA is like a start-up office staple. For the longest time we didn't have desk lamps. I know, aren't you waiting for the walking to school, in the snow, up hill both ways. Anyways we did have over head lights but when you are working until the wee hours of the night, they simply aren't enough. So we got a bunch of these lamps from IKEA. Easy to assemble? Oh hell no but we still have these lamps today and they light up our workplace just fine.

White Plastic Patio Chair

First to recommend

Description

After I graduated from the blue stool it was on to the white plastic patio chair. At least I had back support (not much else though). Oh the life of a start up. But for what it's worth our CEO's seat wasn't much better. Recommendation to come ...

Valeo Body Ball (65 cm)

First to recommend

Description

Gordon Gould is pretty much the picture of perfect health, so it made sense (kinda) for him to use a balance ball as a chair at the office. A balance ball is great for your core and all but after a while it does get pretty old as a chair.

Stapler, Hand-Held, Black/Chrome

First to recommend

Description

For the longest time we have one stapler for the whole entire office. Why we didn't buy more is beyond me. Somehow I got to be the stapler holder so everyone would come to my desk to staple. Even today, with many staplers floating around people still come to my desk to use the stapler. I think people just want to be closet to me. Just sayin'

Salted Pretzel Nuggets with Peanut Butter Center

First to recommend

Description

We have a lot of random snacks in the office, none of which I can eat (except for the almonds from Whole Foods). I can usually resist the calls of the Cheez-Its (hate em), the candy, and the other little snacks BUT when those damn peanut butter pretzels start calling ... I can't help but to listen. I love these salty sons of bitches. They actually don't have too many calories but I am sure the sodium and fat content are killers. I don't care to find out because they are too damn delicious to ruin.

Cashmere Sock Box

3 people recommended this item

Description

Another Gordon Gould product for you ... Gordon loves wearing colorful socks! Loves them. They don't have to match his outfit or anything, he just loves them. Gordon also loves showing off his colored socks by not wearing shoes. I used to think he was a touch crazy for it but yesterday ... I went shoeless and I loved it.

"Hot Cock" how I love thee, let me count the ways.

1.) You go on everything from egg whites to salad. Yes, salad I use it as dressing when eating salads in the office.

2.) You make everything hot and tasty while speeding up my metabolism.

3.) You make the ThisNext office complete. We always have a bottle in the fridge.

Monster Energy-Energy Drink Formula

First to recommend

Description

I don't drink the stuff but the ThisNext offices would be nothing without Monster Energy Drink. Our man Thurkettle drinks this stuff like normal people should drink water. He also stacks the cans on his desk and all around the office. Crazy? Maybe a little but it's just another piece of start-up flair that doubles as decor.
