For some reason, I thought Jar was going to be stuffy, subdued, and sort of "old," even though reviewers have called it a "clubby" atmosphere.

I was totally right -- it IS stuffy -- but for some reason, subdued totally works. It is not necessarily quiet, but there is a sort of calm energy in the air. The space is open, but small, and feels comfortable.

The food is my favorite kind, all-American flavors, but with fresh and new ingredients, techniques, and presentation (which isn't at all too-presh or over-the-top). The meats from the grill are very well done, but my favorite dish of the evening had to have been the braised pork belly. Fatty pork drowning in its own liquid fat? Yes.

Desserts did not impress, but I forgive them. PORK BELLY!

One of these days, I will go for Mozzarella Mondays with Nancy Silverton (if they're still doing it, that is)

it isn't the BEST dog in LA (hotdogspot only gave it one-and-a-half dogs), but you gotta give pink's credit for some crazy branding and buzz - i mean people will wait 45 minutes in line at 2 am!!! (yeah, i am one of them) (via hotdog spot)
