OKGo - Oh No

3 people recommended this item

Description

I originally recommended this by saying:

"Forget for a moment the addictive cleverness of their videos and just listen. Tongues firmly planted in cheek, OKGo makes irresistibly catchy, close-to-perfection, totally danceable pop rock.

It's futile to resist."

But let me revise because the band has released a limited edition of their second album that comes with a full-length DVD. This is a band with personality coming out of their ears and the DVD is proof of that. Tour videos, rock videos and dance videos, (their video for "Here It Goes Again" (the Treadmill Video) has been nominated for a Grammy) plus all kinds of extras and surprises - I didn't know they'd been doing choreographed dances since 2000!

So yeah, it's even more futile to resist! (via okgo.net)

Y Tu Mama Tambien: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

The best film soundtracks match the tones and themes of a film while adding a little extra emotion to the story line. The eclectic mix of songs on the Y Tu Mama Tambien soundtrack - Bran Van 3000, Frank Zappa, Senor Coconut, Marco Antonio Solis - do just that. At times saucy and raucous, at others reflective and sensual it inspires you to find a hidden beach of your own with whomever you choose to travel with.

Amelie: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

Composed by Yann Tiersen, chances are you've heard this soundtrack in a coffee shop or cafe even if you didn't recognize it, so charming is the score to the award-winning 2001 film Amelie. The score mixes strings, vocals, piano and accordian for an undeniably Parisian sound and perfectly captures the whimsy, charm and quirkiness of the film. Let yourself get lost in it.

Trainspotting: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Description

Like a snapshot for the mid 1980s time period of the film mixed with a snapshot of the Brit Pop scene of the mid 1990s. These are songs filled with the exuberant invinciblity of youth, dreary comedowns, heart-stopping withdrawal and surges of joy. It made Iggy Pop's Lust For Life an even more ironic anthem, and had dance floors filled with the "lager! lager! lager!" refrain from Underworld's Born Slippy. Quite simply, there couldn't be a better soundtrack to the film, or a better film for these songs to accompany.

Moneybrother - To Die Alone

First to recommend

Description

I am a sucker for anything that sounds old but new at the same time, and Sweden's Moneybrother's second album is just that. He sounds a lot like Bruce Springsteen, writes dramatic, mini-epic songs and has created a near-perfect new classic with To Die Alone. (via moneybrother.net)

Cold Roses is an amazing album from Ryan Adams, one of the best singer-songwriters of our generation. If you don't have the money to buy this record, steal it from Target or something.

The Charlatans UK - Forever: The Singles

First to recommend

Description

While their peers have peaked and sputtered out or imploded, The Charlatans are still going strong after nearly 20 years recording. They're a band that has outlasted both the media's expectations and their peers, surviving the shoe-gazing, baggy Madchester scene, adding their retro-retro sound to the explosion of Brit Pop in the mid-90s and continuing to release startlingly good albums just as recently as the summer of 2006.

They've just released a collection of their singles and just a single listen brings back so many memories. The mix of Stonesy blues-based rock, swirling Psychedelic organs and dance-oriented rhythms has always sounded so familiar yet somehow new at the same time.

They're as bloody great as ever and thank goodness for that! (via thecharlatans.net)

The Good, the Bad & the Queen

Description

A love affair with the beguiling city of London, an awesome mix of musicianship, songwriting, art, literature, history and healthy doses of romanticism and cockiness.

Allow me to gush for a moment about this band. The Good, The Bad and The Queen have a roster and collective history to make your mouth water and your heart race (especially if you're a music junkie and Anglophile like me) - Simon Tong (The Verve), Tony Allen (Fela Kult/Africa 70), Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz) and Paul Simonon (The Clash) - this is like a supergroup with bonus features! And if that weren't enough, their debut album was produced by the innovative Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton (Gorillaz/Gnarls Barkley).

It's gloomy, it's glorious and it's going to be huge! (via thegoodthebadandthequeen.com)
