Beatles - Love

7 people recommended this item

Description

This album changed my life and the way I look at music and art. It is incredible and I can't wait to see the Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas.

Pandora Internet Radio

4 people recommended this item

Description

A great idea that would fail miserably if it wasn't thought out and executed so brilliantly. Imagine an incredibly sophisticated jukebox or personal radio station with not only your favourite bands, songs and albums but also recommendations from similar artists (some even the most savvy of music snobs would be surprised by)!

You enter in a band that you like and then Pandora suggests other bands you might like based on detailed analysis. Its extensive database also allows you to rate each song and then programs itself to play only those songs that you like and might like based on your ratings. It's really quite genius.

Nouvelle Vague - Bande a Part

4 people recommended this item

Description

To be honest, I'd never listened that closely to the lyrics of "Sweet and Tender Hooligans" or "Blue Monday" before hearing Nouvelle Vague's swanky Bossa Nova versions of them! Now I'm addicted. (via nouvellesvagues.com)

Paul Weller - Hit Parade

First to recommend

Description

It combines the jangly punk of The Jam, the sophisti-pop intellectualism of The Style Council, and the effortless soulfulness of Paul Weller's solo work. He's a masterful songwriter, an unbelievable musican, has one of the most compelling voices you'll ever hear and at the age of 48 is still the absolute epitome of cool. I know you've danced to A Town Called Malice in your underwear before (just like me) and he'll move you again it you let him! (via paulweller.com)

Annie - Anniemal

First to recommend

Description

Secretly love Kylie but too cool to admit it? Here's your alternative. Norwegian DJ Annie is a edgier, hipper, cooler version of Ms Minogue and her music makes you want to coo along with her: "You think you're chocolate, but you're chewing gum". (via anniemusic.co.uk)

The Redwalls - De Nova

First to recommend

Description

I saw The Redwalls play on Thursday night and one song into their playlist I wanted to take them home in my purse and build them a shelf in my bedroom so they can look adorable and play for me whenever I like. I can understand why girls of the '60s and '70s would sob and scream and wet their knickers, because these four little men have exactly the energy, the music and the pure joy that made The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, and The Rolling Stones so exciting. The Feeling - Twelve Stops and Home

First to recommend

Description

This is pop music but NOT the "pop music" being blasted from every store in the mall. Oh, if only it was! There are few that can make fresh, but classic-sounding pop music like The Feeling. And there are even fewer who do it so unabashedly and without irony! Let yourself be seduced. (via thefeeling.com)

ABERDEEN CITY :: THE FREEZING ATLANTIC

First to recommend

Description

Boston-based Aberdeen City combines a jangly rock energy with an numbing intensity (two of the most outstanding modern trends in music) that sounds much more British than American. Alternative Press puts it like this "...if the Strokes and Interpol had a love child...that should give you some idea." Does it? Their live show puts many more accomplished performers to shame and I bet that their opening act slots easily out-do the headliners more often than not!

Their first full-length release is called The Freezing Atlantic and take my word for it, it's bloody addictive!

You'll hear about Aberdeen City eventually - now you can say you knew about them "way back when"! (via Rob Lynch)
