George Nelson did it again...designed in collaboration with Noguchi and Bucky Fuller... the three were doodling one night and by the next am there was a roll of paper with original doodles by the three and this is one of the resulting products. what a night that must have been!

I love this vase...have it in clear glass and in white... filled with fleurs and it is stunning...empty aint bad either. Designed by the great Alvar Aalto in 1936 this vase is iconic , if that is possible for a vase to be...loooove this vase. Made in Finland by iittala. this is a photo of the small version and yes , i have both the small and large ....

this is another classic...designed by Aino Aalto in 1932 - I have the bowl in all sizes, clear of course. So contemporary in its" moderness", functional and as always with good design - timeless.

Outsider Art

I love "outsider art" this piece is by Sam Doyle...he was born on St. Helena Island, South Carolina... his parents were descendents of freed slaves and were farm workers. Sam attended Penn Schools,,, private school founded by Northern white Quaker missionaries to provide a place for children of liberated slave to learn... after retiring in the 1960's, Doyle painted full time.
He painted on large pieces of roofing tin or plywood usually using house paints.. his focus was primarily on the African American folk lore and traditions of St. Helena Island. He died in 1985 leaving behind a large legacy of work.

This outside artis Bill Traylor ( 1854 - 1949 ) was born into slavery near Montgomery, Alabama..he remained a field hand after gaining his freedom.
He did not begin to draw until he was 83 years old. He is an important artist of the 20century... his mastery of form and his flat imagery and use of space bring to mind African and ancient imagery. He was prolific and produced 1500 pieces of art from the age of 83 and older,,,amazing work.. spiritual in their sparcity.
