Breville BCS500XL Cordless Immersion Blender
First to recommend
Description
normally, blending is one of cooking's biggest hassles. however, stick blenders like this avoid the spills and wasted time that traditional blenders take. this one works great, too. get one and leave yr old blender in the cabinet until you need margaritas.
one aggravation: you have to hold down two buttons at once for it to work. i guess it's a safety thing, but it's really just a pain in the ass.

Molto Italiano: 327 Simple Italian Recipes to Cook at Home
4 people recommended this item
Description
i have a simple rule: the fatter an italian guy is, the more likely i am to listen to his opinions about food. when it's mario batali, you better sit at his feet (even in those hideous crocs he favors) and pore over every word.

Description
ignore the douchiness of the title, the flash t-shirt, and the banter. filled with tasty, easy recipes from parts of the world far and near (some examples i remember include huevos rancheros, paella, chili).
i should really do this at home, not at work.

Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly
5 people recommended this item
Description
i always sort of figured that drug abuse, alcoholism, and cooking went somewhat hand in hand--fascination with anything that tactile and sensational lends itself to all sorts of habits.
anyway, bourdain sounds a lot like the chefs i've known. i always thought he probably made himself out to be a bit more of a badass than he really was, but i can live with that.
interesting, funny and occasionally insightful book from a guy whose identity is pretty solidly defined by the word 'provocateur.'

Stainless Steel Infrared Portable Gas Grill
2 people recommended this item
Description
in a phrase: super-fast, super-hot super-grill.
for food geeks: gas superheats a ceramic piece which emits infrared radiation. ir grills heat faster than other grill types (and heats uniformly, due to the ceramic heating element), reach temperatures of 900 degrees f (!), and cook from direct heat to the food's outside, instead of hot air. this combination of high temperature and outside-in cooking allows "sear-grilling", which proponents claim produces extra-juicy meat. it's also effectively self-cleaning (900 degrees will do that).
not so good for bbq, though.

Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2006

Description
goddamn it, robert parker. "...concentrated, fleshy flavors of grapefruit and lime juice, with intense minerality. Wet gravel and a hint of jalapeño pepper linger on the finish." did you lose a bet, or are you just trying to see who'll run out and roll some rocks around on their tongue? fuck you. look what you've done. go sit in the corner.
dry, crisp, and fruity new zealand sb.
