Fever to Tell: Yeah Yeah Yeahs

First to recommend

Description

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs had a lot of indie cred behind them when they released their debut, and you can hear why. There's a ton of power in their music, and Karen O's delivery is great. "Maps" sounds like some kind of punk ballad ripped from the 70s, and the rest of the album keeps the rawness alive and kicking.

Greatest Hits: The Ramones

Description

There's so much good Ramones material, so it has to be so hard to whittle down to one album. This is a very good collection of some of their strongest material. There's ton of really catchy, quick and pumping tunes. A great compilation, and sure to get your energy up when you need it.

Fun House by The Stooges

3 people recommended this item

Description

Iggy and the Stooges are an essential punk band. The fun house was the name for the communal house they shared during the time, but I'm not so sure how fun those nights really must have been. Great, distilled punk from one of the best bands there was.

Raw Power: Iggy & the Stooges

First to recommend

Description

What transpired in Berlin between Iggy and Bowie? Whatever it was, a great album resulted. Whose production is the best, it's hard to say, but Iggy's does put the raw back in Raw Power. An amazing punk album no matter what, this album defines the band and a sliver of time in two great men's careers.

The Dresden Dolls - Self titled CD

2 people recommended this item

Description

Cabaret punk is how their billed, and as odd of a combo as that sounds, it's fitting. There's the rawness and immediacy of punk, but there's a style and theatricality to the songs. "Girl Anachronism" attacks you with it's piano chords, and sweeps you up with its tempo, but "Coin Operated Boy" hearkens back to something oddly of the last century. It's still twisted and distraught mind you. It's what Edward Gorey would have made if he were a punk rocker.

Greatest Hits: blink-182

Description

I think Blink 182 has some really great, catchy pop-punk song. Sometimes they stray into sophomoric themes. I liked Enema of the State, but I never got around to getting their other albums. This is a great collection of their most mainstream, popiest songs in their roster. A great album to pump you up.

Amazing debut from punk's queen songstress. Filled with great songs with amazing lyrics and stripped down production. Seminal album from a terrific punk poet.

Prayers on Fire: The Birthday Party

First to recommend

Description

This is my favorite album from Nick Cave's punk endeavor. Combative and full of amazingly stripped down and passionate energy, these are really great punk songs written by a song master at the beginning of his career.

Singles Going Steady: Buzzcocks

First to recommend

Description

The Buzzcocks were one of the original punk bands, and incredibly important. Punk was born from a singles culture, and so it is fitting that their best selling album is a collection of their strongest singles.

Flat-Pack Philosophy: Buzzcocks

First to recommend

Description

The Buzzcocks last album saw them find a resurgence of popularity and finds them no less diminished in power given their age. A really solid album from some of punk's founding fathers.
