Wish Big - a list by hanahula

About this list:

This holiday season we may not be able to have a no-holds-barred gift fest. But some things are free: a chance to think about what and whom matters most to us; having to buy fewer (or no!) batteries; rejoicing in your own traditions (like singing carols at the top of your lungs and group hugs); and wishing BIG. So, herein you will find ideas for nearly everyone who might be on this year's list . . . and a few for you, too.

Qualifications:

I'm the sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs kind of girl.

Hawaiian Body Products: Kukui Candles

First to recommend

Description

Derived from sources naturally found on the island of Hawaii, burning all the way down to the wick and producing virtually no soot, these candles are inherently cleaner and greener. But what I really love are the scents: Coconut Lemongrass, Jasmine Neroli, Passion Fruit Citrus, Sandalwood Verbena and Vanilla Ginger. Available in both large and travel sizes. An instant aroma getaway. Good gifting.

Amazon: Free to Be...You and Me by Marlo Thomas and Friends - 35th Anniversary Edition

First to recommend

Description

My cousin Katie (although she was too young to realize she had done so) first introduced me to this book. I already knew and loved the "That Girl" Marlo, who strode down a city street in go-go boots; spun around in glee; and threw her hat in the air at the beginning of each episode. She embodied freedom, it seemed to me then . . . and now, as she re-introduces her book to a world still struggling to deal with all the different ways both girls and boys, men and women express themselves. Adding more contributors to her merry tribe of singers, writers, poets and comedians, Marlo Thomas' book is now bigger, better and perhaps even more relevant today. And wouldn't it be great if the first one who smiled really did win?! Good gifting.

Buy Snow: Women's Nana Beanie by Burton

First to recommend

Description

Well, the temperature has dropped below freezing here in NJ over the weekend . . . and so my mind starts to wander from the outdoors. I need some outerwear reinforcement to keep myself moving and motivated. In addition to being a very groovy hat indeed, this itch-free beanie will help keep me cozy on the frosty days to come. On the other hand, if you live in a warm climate and cannot wait to catch a glimpse of ice and snow, this hat might be your idea of "resort wear" . . . that's chill too. Good gifting.

Buy Snow: Women's 2008 Ollie Pop Snowboard by Roxy

First to recommend

Description

I flunked skiing in high school after tearing up my left knee and being tobogganed down the mountain by the local snow patrol. So, one might think I would steer away from high ground and think about taking up skating or cross-country skiing. But how could I go wrong with a board this beautiful?! Whether you are an old pro or just starting to get your snowboarding rhythm, this freestyle board will give you a great ride and an even better workout.

FAO Schwarz: When Santa Turned Green by Victoria Perla

First to recommend

Description

Who better to introduce children and adults alike to the concepts of global warming and environmental protection than the Jolly Old Saint Nick ?! A lighthearted and clever treatment of a serious subject, this book will engage and inform. And, of course, it is printed using soy-based inks on recycled paper. Good gifting.

Barnes and Noble: The Anglo Files: A Field Guide to the British by Sarah Lyall

First to recommend

Description

Although many of us are indeed descended from the British and we like to think we speak the same language, the fact is that our cultures are notably different. The British are too polite to tell us, I believe, how much we really misunderstand them ... however much we may claim to love them. Sarah Lyall helps to set us Yanks straight with her humorous collection of contemporary collection of insights and observations. A must-read for any Anglophile. Good gifting.
