Description
Ok, so I have way more than a green thumb, so perhaps this isn't perfect for everyone, BUT this is for ME!! I'm inclined to try to build one myself, which I could do, but I probably would never get around to it.
What's more functional than art, decor and a means to breath!

The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard
First to recommend
Description
Ok, who hasn't seen this video yet? For those that haven't...DO IT. We are all stuck in our little world of shopping, storing it within our four walls and throwing our trash out to the curb, but there is so much more to the picture. Where did the stuff come from and where does it go? WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STATE OF OUR WORLD. You don't have to be an environmentalist to realize that Americans are very careless with the soil, water, and air we have. How very selfish and self-absorbed to think society and future generations are not impacted by our choices.
The video is about 20 minutes, but it is presented in such a simple, clear, and entertaining way - you'll want to watch it more than once!

Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database
First to recommend
2 people recommended this item
Description
The website is really a pioneer in cosmetic safety. I've been using it for well over a year. We all assume what we put on our skin is safe, but there is no oversight for safety. What this website does is arm the consumer with information so they can make an informed decision. Ingredients are listed for each product (not all brands are included because there are so many) and the safety for each ingredient is evaluated. The product is given an overall number, with higher numbers being more toxic or unsafe.
For those that want to watch what we put INTO our bodies, why would we not watch what we put ON our bodies? These chemicals do not stay sitting nicely on top of our skin, eyelashes, or hair ---they are absorbed into our bodies.

Wall Shelf Drying Rack - Gaiam

Description
Considering I hang all my delicates to dry, this would be perfect. Not to mention I would use it for all the other things it suggests: drying flowers, pasta and herbs. It is also USA made.

Hemp Wallets by Ecoluti
First to recommend
Description
Wake up people! Hemp is extremely sustainable! It grows super fast, requires no pesticides, and provides lots of great nutrients to the soil (unlike crops that deplete nutrients). Though I will admit, the growing of it would get hairly in the U.S. due to it's glazy-eyed cousin.
I bought a checkbook wallet and a men's wallet and the quality is great. Plus, I ordered the wallet right before Christmas -knowing there was no way I would get it in time- and I did! They had it to me from Canada in just a few days, don't know how they did it.
**Update** It's been two Christmases since I gave this gift and it hasn't worn through like his previous "leather" ones. Still in fantastic shape... amazing!!

Folding Recycling Bags - Gaiam

Description
These bags would be much easier to handle than the hard plastic bins. Perhaps great for the starter recycler! If you don't recycle, please think about it. Even just starting with glass would be a start (glass is 100% recyclable).
