VerTerra Dinnerware: Leaf plates!

Description
Make way for the amazing biodegradable, reusable, oven-safe and unbelievably hip leaf plates!
Seriously, these plates are the coolest way to go green. Made from fallen palm leaves gathered in India, these are essentially steam-pressed leaves that scream "GREEN" at every stage of their lifecycle. They require no chemicals for production, are reusable with the majority of foods and can even be microwaved. As an added bonus they are extremely chic to look at.
As one reviewer says, the only thing not green about them is their colour!

Koyaanisqatsi - Life Out of Balance
First to recommend
Description
This art movie describes modern life as Koyaanisqatsi, a Hopi term meaning "out of balance".
The movie, made in the 80s, is part of the Qatsi trilogy, and uses such techniques as slow-motion, time-lapse video and stock footage of events like the liftoff of Apollo 13 to bring out the changes Man has wrought on the face of the planet and raises important questions on the sustainability of such a lifestyle. All this is set to brilliant music, sometimes frenetic, sometimes the haunting chorus of the word "Koyaaniqatsi".
All this seems particularly relevant in these days of environmental hyper-awareness, but even without its message, the movie is an experience to savour. The movie does not seek to condemn so much as it tries to provoke. The slow-mo shots of steam rising from rows of cooling towers, the perfect symmetry of massed Soviet tanks, these are images whose beauty rivals other shots of the Grand canyon and the clouds flowing over mountains. All of this presents us with the scale of changes we as humans have brought about. We are allowed to make our own conclusions from this.

Reelight Battery Free Bike Lights

Description
If you are on a mission to save the earth by biking everywhere, then these are the must have accessories to top it all off. They do not need batteries to run, and in addition, they are extremely robust, so they will not quickly end up in a landfill somewhere.
Pluses: The above mentioned, plus there are modified versions for bikes with disc brakes. Also, alternate versions have one or more of the following features: blinking lights, continuous beams, capacitors that store energy while running so that lights continue to blink/beam for a short while after the bike stops. The lights are easy to install, are maintenance free and have zero operating costs! Fit and forget!
Minuses: These lights can only be mounted near the wheel axle because the lamp has to be near the magnets powering it. Hence the lights will be a little below knee level, which enhances bike visibility from a distance but may not be effective for cars right next to the bike. Also never forget that these are lights to be seen by, NOT to see by. I have installed an LED headlight in addition to these, to light the way ahead of me. As you may expect, the price is also higher than normal battery-powered lights, but very reasonable compared to dynamo lights. Part of the reason for the cost is also that the lights have to imported from teh Netherlands.
