Van Morrison: Astral Weeks

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

When my generation thinks of Van Morrison, we usually think of "Brown Eyed Girl" and that's about it. But, the highlight of his career had to of come with the '68 release of Astral Weeks. It's one of the few albums that I can listen to, in its entirety, over and over again.

In sentimental terms, it's the type of dreamy folk music that is sure to transform you to whatever happy place you want to be.

Jon Brion: I Heart Huckabees

First to recommend

Description

Yeah, indie kids all over salivate when they talk about "Huckabees" and rightfully so. It's a frickin awesome movie. But, all too often, we watch a film without appreciating the music within. When it comes to film scores, Jon Brion is the all powerful, the all knowledgeable, the Yoda, the Mr. Miyagi, the no one does it better than him guy. Have I convinced you yet? This is a must have.

Sublime Acoustic: Bradley Nowell & Friends

First to recommend

Description

I'm not going to lie, this is probably some of my all time favorite Sublime and it's not even, technically, Sublime. However, the accoustic versions are unbelievable. Best song --Rivers of Babaylon.

Welcome To The Welcome Wagon

First to recommend

Description

I know it sounds suspect, but this Presbyterian Pastor and his wife (known as Welcome Wagon) have just put out one of my favorite albums of the year. Of course, it was recorded, produced and arranged by Sufjan Stevens. So, I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Norah Jones: Come Away with Me

First to recommend

Description

I remember seeing Norah Jones when she was on this tour -- then unknown, opening up for the growing John Mayer. She was clearly the most beautiful performer i've ever seen -- and i'm talking about the music (well, her too).

Come on Feel the Illionoise is mine (and almost everyone elses) favortie Sufjan Album. And, it's no surpise that all the goods didn't actually make it to the album. So graciously, they gave us this, "the outtakes and extras from the Illionose album."

Description

The bands second album, was really what sold me on the curious band. Their music is questionable, but also transforming. It's a smooth, mellow and ambient listen. Check, I think you'll like it.

Description

This six-song EP is out tomorrow (Dec. 9th) and rest assured, it's worth the money. It's six more covers from Chan Marshall and it, somehow, did it again. Absolutely beautiful.
