No Slippy Hair Clippy: The clip that stays in

First to recommend

Description

They ain't lying - it really IS the only clip that stays in. And it is also they only clip that I can get in, because it's quick and easy. Every other kind I've tried take so long to close that by the time I'm almost done my daughter is onto me, she thrashes around, shakes her head and slaps at my hands till I give up. These ones are in before she even knows what's happened.

Not only that, but they really are adorable and come in endless styles and colours.

Po Po's Ponchos

Description

These are made by a Vancouver company and they are possibly the cutest thing you'll ever see. Plus, no more struggling with jackets! Just throw it over her head and you're ready to go! Love, love them! And they come in a ton of cute colours and patterns. I ordered mine on the weekend and it was here by Tuesday! (via Vitamin V)

Description

This was a gift and at first I thought it might be yet another toy to take up space and be completely ignored. But I was wrong! My daughter has liked this one from a young age. I underestimated how much babies love everything musical! It has a tamborine, a rattle, bells, drumsticks, and it all comes in a storage drum so it's easy to keep track of all the bits and pieces. It's actually a lot of fun, I'd really recommend it.

Fisher Price Brilliant Basics Toys

Description

There are so many "developmental" toys out there for babies. Some make noises, some flash lights, some talk and shake and roll around. Most are a waste of money. I think that for young babies the simple toys are the best ones. That's why I like Fisher Price Brilliant Basics line. The Shape Sorter and Ring Stacker are two of my daughter's very favourite toys. And they're cheap! What could be better?

The Baby Einstein DVDs

Description

I love this because it has saved my sanity. When my daughter was a very young baby she could be howling at the top of her lungs and these dvds would make it stop. They are miraculous. The first time I saw it I admit I thought, "What kind of budget crap is this?" But babies love them. And now I do too. Baby Mozart is good for young babies. Now my daughter is 1 and enjoys Baby MacDonald and Language Nursery. Whoever invented these is genius. I am forever in their debt. I would skip the toys, though. My daughter loves watching them on the screen but the few I've bought for her have been largely ignored. The CDs are good for car rides, though!

Description

There is a whole series of these Touch and Feel books. They have everything babies love: flaps, noise, textures. And good chewable pages. They're my daughter's favourite books by far.

Kiddopotamus

Description

You know those cute little terry cloth bibs that say "I love Mommy" and have pictures of flowers and butterflies on them? They're useless. I don't understand why they are still being sold. What you need is an industrial strength plastic catch-all bib like this one. Baby Bjorn makes a similar one. They're the only way to go.

Baby Bjorn

Description

My baby treats the stroller like it is some ancient form of torture, so the Bjorn has been a complete lifesaver for us. It's comfy, she loves it, and no one can resist a dangling, smiling baby. She's 22 lbs now and I still use it when we need to.

Robeez baby shoes

Description

There is a reason almost every baby you see these days is wearing these shoes. Not only are they cute, but they're the only shoe that my daughter hasn't managed to take off and throw out of the stroller into the great unknown.

Baby Mum-mum Rice Rusk

First to recommend

Description

I did a happy dance when my baby was able to eat these. I think she was around 5 months or so. Screaming in the mall? Give her a Baby Mum Mum. Hating the stroller? Give her a Baby Mum Mum. She loves them and they dissolve instantly so you can put your ever-present fear of choking aside for a few minutes. And unlike all those teething biscuits that melt into a sticky, gooey mess that ends up in their hair, ears and nose, these are pretty much mess-free. She's a year now and still likes them for a snack.
