Description

Is there a chance for 5 indigenous Ecuadoran tribes to go up against Chevron? Their communities were nearly destroyed by the oil drilling and development. I'm sure this is the type of documentary that would give its viewers that uncomfortable feeling of knowing that they were part of this destruction. We support with our money. (via Treehugger)

A vegetarian friend of mine told be well over a year ago that she was cutting seafood. She said that there could be a total collapse of the fishing industry by the year 2050. She must have read the book that this documentary was hatched from. With over ninety percent of the big fish already gone. Let's hope we think twice before ordering the sea bass next time we go out. I've seen videos of the disgusting capture of dolphins and the hidden conditions in which they are held, but this goes a step further. As a documentary about a town in Japan in which they capture wild dolphins, this film was made, as they say "covertly" in order to expose the ill practice. Anyone having gone to Sea World or seen captive dolphins should see this.

All I need to know is that Paul Giamatti is in this movie. I'm sold. Add on to that the premise of "soul-trafficking" ~ ok, what's more that "sold"?

I love the Inuits, yet I cannot comprehend how some have never seen a white man ~ not for long though as we encroach.

Dirt! The Movie | Sundance Festival 2009

Description

If you've read In Defense of Food by Micheal Pollan, he touched ever so lightly on the idea that we are only as good as the soil beneath us. If we sustain on animal that sustain on plants that sustain from the soil, then don't we essentially rely on the health of the soil? It's more important than we give it credit for in our daily lives. Watch Dirt. (via Treehugger)

I have a feeling that this story of a South Korean couple and their ox of forty years is much more heartfelt than I could imagine.
