Escape to Witch Mountain / Return From Witch Mountain

Description

I saw both of these movies at the drive-in when I was a kid and was mesmerized. The story of orphans Tia and Tony and their telekinetic powers was mind-blowing to me. For weeks I went around trying to levitate random objects (with no success of course). Kids in my day found both tales riveting. I'm pretty sure that the special effects aren't as special anymore. But let's just say that their true origins to end up being out of this world! (via amazon.com)

Rikki Tikki Tavi/Yankee Doodle Cricket

Description

One of the short films on this DVD is the classic Chuck Jones tale of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, narrated by Orson Welles. It was aired with frequency during the late 70's and early 80's on network TV. Much to my delight when I was a middle-schooler. The story of the brave little mongoose facing down cobras to save a British family living in India was enthralling. I recall it with relish to this very day. (via amazon.com)

Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope

Description

The first film that I ever adored completely. When the movie ended and I was sitting in the theater at seven years old, I refused to leave. That's the sort of sentiment I have towards Star Wars. A bit much, maybe, but a little nostalgia goes a long way.

Master of the Flying Guillotine

Description

I saw this movie at the drive-in when I was about 4 years old. I wasn't supposed to be watching. I was allegedly asleep in the back seat. However, it was so trippy and so out-of-hand that it left a huge impression on me. I know, not hard to do to a 4-year-old. But some of the things I remembered just seemed too outlandish to be going on in a martial arts movie. When I became an adult I tracked down a copy and everything I recalled and more was in the film! It's total kitch, hilarious and bad, but you will be clapping by the end of it. It has to be seen to be believed!

Introducing what many consider the Holy Grail of 1970's martial arts/Hong Kong films. Master of the Flying Guillotine (also known as One Armed Boxer vs. The Flying Guillotine) combines eye-popping visuals, unforgettable characters, incredible performances, a spectacular electronic soundtrack and one of the most notorious weapons in film history. The cult and legend of Master of the Flying Guillotine continues to grow as martial arts film moves into the mainstream. Both Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson single out "Master" as one of their favorite films. (via target.com)

The Muppet Show - Season One

4 people recommended this item

Description

Clearly, The Muppet Show was more for adults than for kids. My mother enjoyed it far more than I did when it debuted in 1976. I REALLY didn't get it. Some of the sillier, slapstick things were obviously funny to me, but there was plenty of banter that took place that went way over my head. The subtlties in characterization of the Muppets, and even the finer points in making fun of the celebrity guests are more than apparent to me now, and so clever. Jim Henson was ahead of his time. Description

It is a total trip to watch these! I was far too young to remember a lot of this, save for the repeats that I saw later. Anyway, it's amazing to see this show from its inception. And it is sooo nice not to see Elmo! God I hate Elmo! (via amazon.com)

Schoolhouse Rock! Special 30th Anniversary Edition

Description

I hate to admit it --- but I really didn't learn much besides the songs! I did not internalize the information. I just went around singing the songs --- constantly! To myself, in the car, along with the TV... I tried getting extra credit for writing out the Preamble, but my teacher never would go for it. I'll bet she was on to me. To this day I can still rattle off many of the tunes, what'll that get me? Not even applause. (via amazon.com)

The Hee Haw Collection - Episode 152 (Dolly Parton, Kenny Price, Barbi Benton)

Description

I can't believe I'm even admitting to this one. I probably saw this particular episode --- there were so many. Yes, I watched "Hee Haw". I watched it with my grandparents every Sunday from the ago of 1-9. And I liked it! Yes, I liked it. I'm shaking my head right now. I had no taste, was impressionable and dig practically any sort of melody. What can I say?

I love Clint Eastwood movies! I grew up on them, so I suppose I can blame it on my Mom. However, I adore his westerns. Even now I just find them funny and relaxing. Eastwood doesn't act in this movie --- he spits! (via amazon.com)
