Description
I love this book! Since I've been done with my potty-training for years, it's of no particular use to me, but than to crack me up and to give as gifts to new parents. It's a good book to use if your rug rat is having trouble or is resistant to the concept of well, you know. It's also, as I stated before just a cool book to give to new parents. Even if their kid doesn't end up having any issues with the big number two, any child, including "kidults" will get a kick out of it.

Egon Schiele: The Ronald S. Lauder And Serge Sabarsky Collections

Description
Egon Schiele inspired me as an art student in high school. The German Expressionist movement as a whole stuck out for me, but Egon Schiele was among the artists that made me want to draw. His visceral style of representing the human form just resonates with me. It's true to life in such graphic form. I could go on and on about it, but you should pick up a copy and see for yourself.

Nosferatu (2-Disc Special Edition), Max Schreck, DVD - Barnes & Noble
First to recommend
Description
Nosferatu was the first vampire movie ever made. I say it's actually one of the creepiest. In spite of the fact that it's a silent film, and the acting can be a bit stilted. The film's long shadows and for its time, eerie special effects, and its startling star, Max Schreck as Count Dracula create an unforgettable atmospheric time piece.
Max Schreck's gangly, misshapen count is one of the most freakish characters that I have ever seen on film. I believe he even did his own makeup. His movements - the way he drifts and makes his way across the screen are unsettling and creepy. It's a combination of screen magic and acting talent. He does not seem to be of this world at all. Most portrayals of Dracula, in my opinion are laughable to some degree. Schreck's is just unnatural. Watch even just a bit of him in this film and tell me if I exaggerate.

It would be fascinating and scary to compare years without having to go back through separate journals. That's why I think this is such an intriguing and practical idea.

Watership Down DVD
2 people recommended this item
Description
I first saw this movie at school, when I was in the 6th grade. I couldn't believe the carnage! I had always thought of rabbits as cute and cuddly, hopping about, far from being malicious.
However, this film adaptation of the novel "Watership Down", pulls no punches whatsoever. The characters are meant to be societal metaphors, but are so well-developed that it's hard not to get involved with or to even despise them. There are larger faceless characters at work here, too. The destructive faces of Man and Progress. The environmental messages are unavoidable and stunning.
The animation in the film is masterful and atmospheric. Especially considering that it was made over 25 years ago. Aside from the music that accompanies it, this movie is far from dated. I suggest that anyone interested in viewing this flick, try and get a copy of the book first. They are quite a compatible pairing. They do not mirror one another, but complement.
All I remember from seeing this for the very first time, was trying to hide my tears from my classmates. Luckily, the room was dark.

I've always loved these cameras, but have put off getting one for years. Not sure why... Then I heard that Polaroid had stopped making film for these cameras. Now I'm wondering if this is true... If not, it's still on my must have list.

Driedel with Pewter Stand

I'm not even Jewish and I love the Driedel game! Problem is, since I'm not Jewish and neither are the vast majority of my friends, I have a hard time getting people to play it with me. Plus, I lost my driedel a few holiday seasons ago. However, if I were to receive a sweet one like this, it would not go missing. It would be put into an entirely different category of my cool stuff. Anyone I know, watching? Need new dreidel for the holidays!

The Velvet Underground & Nico
3 people recommended this item
Description
One of the most influential rock/alternative albums of all time. Nothing really matches it in terms of creativity , texture and atmosphere. A couple of the tracks go on a bit long for my taste, but overall, a tight album. Notable tracks, include "All Tomorrow's Parties", "Waiting For the Man", "Venus In Furs" and "Femme Fatale". It should be in your collection if you consider yourself to be an informed music collector. Even if it's just for looks.

PEACHES: The Teaches of Peaches
2 people recommended this item
Description
Peaches is like a one-woman Too Live Crew (if you remember them from the 80's). She's nasty, shocking and great! One funny fact is that she used to be a school teacher. Figures! I know a few pretty raunchy school teachers. Peaches is an American original. I mean, she isn't the first woman recorded rapping, chanting dirty lyrics, but certainly one of the most memorable.
My favorite track on this album is "F**k the Pain Away". Very repetitive, very electronic, but has plenty of raw sexuality and punch.
I can't believe this was first released almost eight years ago! Still an awesome party album. Not something to put on when you're alone and wanting to ponder the deeper meaning of it all, but definitely more than a keeper.
