Sandstone sculpture, 'Divine Parvati'

First to recommend

Description

This is a lovely sandstone sculpture of Parvati, consort of Lord Shiva and mother of Ganesha. Seated on a lotus throne and holding a fragrant blossom, Parvati is graceful and beautiful.

This sculpture is from Indian sculptor Brijesh Kumar of Delhi. He follows in his father's footsteps as a sculptor/stone carver. His work is featured on Novica.com. (via novica.com)

Sandstone statuette, 'Ganesha and the Cycles of Life'

First to recommend

Description

I am fascinated by religious iconography. Especially those from Hinduism and Catholicism.

The elephant-headed Ganesh is my favorite Hindu deity, being the God of Wisdom and "remover of obstacles". Said also to be the "keeper of the records of knowledge," Ganesha exudes a calming aura as he affects positively the space he occupies. He reclines for a comfortable rest, holding in one hand a mystical chain symbolic of life's cycles. Wayan Kandiyasa sculpts his divine image from sandstone with masterful care for detail. I think this would be a fascinating read. I would be interested in hearing other opinions on why design affects people differently. Whether I agree with those opinions may be another story all togther.

Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope

Description

The first film that I ever adored completely. When the movie ended and I was sitting in the theater at seven years old, I refused to leave. That's the sort of sentiment I have towards Star Wars. A bit much, maybe, but a little nostalgia goes a long way.

Costco

6 people recommended this item

Description

My favorite thing about Costco, besides the large variety of products that you can buy in bulk, is the variety of seasonal produce available. I can buy organic raspberries for the entire growing season there, in bulk for less than I can anywhere else in town. The same goes for organic salad mix and baby carrots.

Everything that I consume mass quantities of on a regular basis, I can buy there, save and waste less. Costco also has great deals on premium alcohol.

28 Days Later (2003)

Description

Probably the best zombie film made in recent years, if not the best ever. It was truly scary because it was probable. The zombies weren't these sluggish creatures pulling barely pulling themselves along. They were running at living people at top speed...sometimes when they were on fire... They weren't even "zombies as such. They were "infected" people. That's what was frightening. Truly frightening. There's more, but why spoil it for those of you that haven't been terrified?

I need more games in my house. Even if I have to play by myself, or duct tape the dog to this sweet multi-function game table.
