The Book of Genesis Illustrated by R. Crumb

First to recommend

Description

I have to say Crumb's Eve is my favorite, she is truly hot.

This eagerly awaited graphic work retells the first book of the Bible in a profoundly honest way. Peeling away the theological and scholarly interpretations that have often obscured its most dramatic stories, R. Crumb—using the actual text word for word—has imagined the Bible as it really was. Now, readers of every persuasion—Crumb fans, comic book lovers, history buffs, and believers—can gain astonishing new insights from these harrowing, visceral, and even juicy stories. Crumb’s The Book of Genesis reintroduces readers to Adam and Eve’s Eden, Noah’s Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, and the Pharaoh’s Egypt. Using clues from the text, Crumb fleshes out the parade of biblical originals: from the sensitive dreamer Joseph to the crafty Jacob, to the still-fetching Sarah, to God Himself. The result, four years in the making, is a tapestry of extraordinary detail, the finest work of Crumb’s legendary career.

Martin Margiela Helmet

Description

I see this Martin Margiela Helmet as sculpture, painting, or art in motion.

Biker accessories label Les Ateliers Ruby have collaborated with Maison Martin Margiela for the third season of their limited edition Signature Program. In the midst of celebrating it's 20th birthday, Maison Martin Margiela became highly enthusiastic about the project to transform the Ruby helmet. Martin Margiela and his colleagues at 163 Rue St-Maur took the programme title literally and each one placed his signature on the helmet to create a collective work. There were only 600 of these very special helmets ever made

Marilyn Minter - Green Pink Caviar DVD

First to recommend

Description

Marilyn Minter continues her interest in blurring the boundaries between fine and commercial art. Co-opting advertising genres and related spaces, she takes a new platform to direct her first video. Green Pink Caviar (2009) is a lush and sensual voyeuristic hallucination. Filmed with macro lenses, she captures the most minute movements of female mouths licking candy and cake decoration. Driven by her fascination with the body, Minter's film sets the stage for chance to happen.

A Scene from Pina Bausch's Ballet, by Helmut Newton

First to recommend

Description

This was the Helmut Newton photo that made me ask, who is Pina Bausch?

I finally got the answer to that question when I moved to Brooklyn where Pina Bausch's "Tanztheater Wuppertal" performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. I loved the super sexy, superhuman cast of Tanztheater Wuppertal, but I also was felt lucky to have seen Pina Bausch's solo performaces as well, she moved with a grace that has been missing from dance for sometime. But it was her choreography that inspired me, made me laugh till I cried. I'll allays think of her as the choreographer who replaced the toe-shoe with stilettos, I'll miss her vision.
