Mondaine Watches

8 people recommended this item

Description

I hadn't worn a watch in years, but after discovering this watch on ThisNext, I had to break my own rule. I love the simple, clean, bold look. It reminds me of my favorite $15 black on white Timex that I owned decades ago, but this one adds an interesting red second hand and costs ten times as much. (via loft3)

Palm Treo 650 Smartphone

First to recommend

36 people recommended this item

Description

Popular for good reason.
Great screen resolution, full PalmOS PDA, pretty good reception (at least on the Sprint PCS network in major cities), usable web browser, bluetooth capability, DateBook, Contacts database, MP3/Audible player, and so on.

Camera is somewhat usable if you have a still, close subject in bright light but otherwise you can forget about it.

Note that the screen resolution is *better* than the Treo 700 models.
This is the phone to get if you would like PalmOS. If you want Windows CE, you'll have to get a recommendation elsewhere.

Canon Powershot SD400 5MP Digital Elph Camera

14 people recommended this item

Description

My SD550 is already out of date, but it's my third Canon. Their cameras combine enough high tech and ease-of-use to make you a tiny bit cool as a photographer, even though I'm just an amateur with delusions of grandeur.

SlimSlimmy wallet

14 people recommended this item

Description

I've been on a quest to find a small, thin, but usable wallet. I decided to give the Slimmy a try after seeing the SlimSlimmy recommended on ThisNext. I chose the Slimmy because I only wanted to fold my cash once. The SlimSlimmy requires folding US currency in thirds which makes it thicker.

I am very happy so far with my Slimmy wallet. I can easily fit 3 ATM/credit cards, drivers license, 2 insurance cards, 2 folded checks, Ichima Sushi VIP card, and folded cash (up to 10 or so bills at my comfort level). The wallet obviously can't make any of that thinner, but at least it doesn't add much thickness and the leather has a nice look and feel.

An empty Slimmy is actually a smidge thicker than the fine woven wallet I bought in Sagada (a remote mountain village in the Philippines) so their claim of "slimmest wallet on Earth" is not entirely true; but overall the Slimmy has a much smaller profile and is much easier to procure so I am happy to own and recommend it.

Note: Stay away from the Jimi also sold by Koyono and others. That plastic wallet had great marketing, but was unecessarily thick and fell apart on me after a month. (via bzipkin)

Leatherman Squirt S4

First to recommend

4 people recommended this item

Description

Fits in your pocket as easily as the Leatherman Micra but most of the tools are accessible on the sides without unfolding the whole thing. Plus it comes in different colors.

Look at the model when buying as the S4 has scissor and the P4 has pliers.

Canon Soft Leather Case for Canon Digital ELPH Cameras

First to recommend

Description

My favorite leather cover for the Canon SD450 (and probably other small cameras). It won't protect a camera from a fall, but it's made of very soft leather, is not bulky like other cases, and still protects from scratches.

I don't know if it's still available anywhere.

Treo 650 Li-Ion Extended Battery

First to recommend

Description

Your life is in your Treo 650 and the life of your Treo 650 is in its battery. Why not have a spare on hand? They've really dropped in price, especially if you pick it up from my friend Patrick at TechBudget.com.

Sandisk Ultra II SD Plus USB

First to recommend

6 people recommended this item

Description

It's the smallest 1GB USB memory stick that I've found. And, that's because it's the size and shape of an SD card. And, that's because it *is* an SD card!
This means that you can use it in your Treo 650 and/or your Canon SD400 as a standard SD memory card and then (after hinging part of the card down) plug it into your computer's USB port to transfer pictures or data.

Yes, it really works and I've had no problems with the USB connection even though it doesn't have all of the bulk of the normal USB plugs.

The only drawback is that it is a little wide when plugged into the USB port, so it may prevent adjacent USB ports from being used at the same time.

This replaced my existing SD card and eliminated my need for two other devices: my SD card reader and my USB keychain memory stick.

This card also comes with a slim keychain holder so that it doesn't get lost in your pocket if you don't have a phone or camera.

Bullet Space Pen

Description

The best thing about this pen is how the smooth curves feel in your hand when it's closed. You'll find yourself fiddling with it even if you're not usually an idle fiddler.

Sanford Elite Vision Uniball Pen,

Description

These pens are not good for filling out rebate forms; but when you're writing in normal size letters, the generous ink flow makes for very smooth and easy writing.
