Description

Why I love this Speedo:
1-Double draw strings keep the bottoms AND top in place
2-Bottoms are a little boyish, which is so cute. Sometimes training bikinis can be either really high-waisted or, worse, high-legged a la Olivia Newton John.
3-Lap swimmers may have to suffer through a lifetime of tanlines over the shoulders, but at least torsos don't have to be chlorine-white all summer.

Description

The non-Speedo Speedo! Double cross back is barer than your typical speedo and single red chest stripe is sporty without being aggressively graphic. Thusfar, this suit is my favorite iteration of the classic cut.

Description

Once upon a time, swim goggles were a bit of a Goldilocks affair: The "this one's too big" variety were like wearing double foam matresses on one's face and the "this one's too small" ilk , Swedish goggles, had not a trace of cushion, which is comfy when you're swimming but leaves an entirely unflattering suction line one one's face. And you know what mama used to say about what would happen when you made the same ugly face over and over... Which is to say, the Speedo Vanquisher goggle is fetching, functional and, well, very "this one is just right."

Speedo Print Kickboard

Description

OK, fine, technically this kickboard is for kids. But no one needs a raft to stay afloat when kicking. A little buoyancy goes a long way... and smaller kickboards are easier do to flip turns with. "Flip turns when kicking?" you say. That's right: as you approach the wall just fold your arms (at the shoulders) and the board straight toward your waist and do your normal flip turn. And don't panic in the middle, it's exactly the same motion. Always a crowd pleaser. Just like a bubble-gum pink kickboard.

Butterfly bikini. Get it? Butterfly? Clever homonymy and a cute lap-swimming suit to boot!

P.S. Lots of ladies at the pool are wearing suits by Speedo cut like this - triathlon-inspired briefs - and it's flattering on everyone.

Description

Almost as a rule, I hate Uggs. I said, "Almost." They're just such a blobby boot. However, I kind of want to get these to wear to morning swim practices in the winter. They're comfy and they'd fold up so nicely in my Speedo bag. And then, just maybe, they'd go to coffee afterwards with leggings tucked in. Not coffee-on-the-way-to-work coffee, mind you, just coffee-in-Venice-on-weekends coffee.

See the whole Comme des Garçons for Speedo line at Dover Street Market. I would love to see some swimmer guy rocking the black-and-white bike-short cut at the pool some morning... Nothing like a couture-clad "Good morning!" to make 6:30 a little friendlier.

Grain Surfboards The Waka Fish

Description

Grain = gorgeous... though I haven't seen one of these in the water yet, I covet them. They haven't really made it to the west coast yet in a big way (or to So Cal). But these boards tie into three big trends: retro boardriding is what "all the kids" are into; DIY is getting bigger and bigger (you can get a build-it-yourself version of these boards for a third of the price of the readybuilt ones); green, always a natural fit, is gaining traction in outdoor sports.

Description

I once had a crocodile swimsuit that attained best-suit-ever status. This pink elephant is almost as good. And that's saying something. How could anyone, you or your lane-mates, not smile when confronted with a pink elephant at a sunrise swim? Also, it has peanuts on the bootie. Peanuts!
