I have a strange obsession with sea urchins. I like really odd animals, and sea urchins are in my top 5 bizarre creatures. They're really cool and spiky. And they look just as cool without their barbed accoutrement's. Here, a porcelain replica of a sea urchin serves as a pair of nifty salt and pepper shakers.

Description

I have a strange fascination with sea urchins. One of my favorite things as a kid was when my mom would let me play with the sea urchins she used in her developmental biology class. They feel very odd when they walk across your hand, and as prickly as they look, they don't hurt. When they passed away, their shells would dry out and the spines fall off, leaving this delicate looking husk behind. Here someone has used the beauty of the sea urchin's shell to make a box to hold your precious treasure, or just adorn your favorite table.

Quail Vertical Necklace by Small Things

Description

Quail are kinda cool. They're pretty neat for birds: they're a hieroglyphic letter, they take dust baths, they have a funny droopy thing on their head. And they look pretty cool on this pendant. Personally, I like the quail as a little black silhouette, but you could also get him in jade green, slate or white.

Octopus Vase by Dovetail

Description

Add the octopus to the list of freaky animals that I find utterly fascinating. I think it was spending too much time reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or something. This menacing creature graces a vase with a slightly uncharacteristic shape. Maybe one of its brethren gave it a squeeze prior to the kiln or something. Whatever it is, it's a totally unique piece that's sure to draw attention.

Platypi! Or is it Platypuses? Either way, they have to be my #1, all-time favorite freaky animal. And kiwi, kiwi are kinda freaky-cool too. Not a huge Dodo fan I have to say though. There's a reason they went extinct and these other two didn't They're just simply not quite cool enough. Can we substitute a hedgehog instead?

CHINESE UNICORN TOTE

Description

Mythical animals rock, epsecially hithero unheard of mythical animals. A chinese unicorn?! I had never heard of one, but they look pretty sweet. Short of going to a magical forrest and finding one to befrend you, carrying a picture of one around on your shoulder is the next best way to appreciate this very nifty-looking animal.

Boucheron - Herrison Ring

I was flipping through the inflight magazine on Air France a week or so ago and saw this beauty in the middle of a stack of gold rings. How amazingly cute is he?! I have a soft spot for hedgehogs. They're amazing in their spiny-goodness. There's also a great necklace of a curled-up hedgehog that goes with it. (See the second image in this posting). If I had a few grand burning a hole in my pocket I just might think about picking up the set ;)
