Wusthof White Classic 8-in. Cook's Knife

First to recommend

Description

This is the must-have. I call this the Prada of Knives. This is the one (and only!) knife you need, and the good news is that it will alst you your whole life. So shell out for the Prada. I adore it for its classy good looks, heft and sharpness of blade (which retains its edge very nicely!) and curved blade which allows for "rockability" during chopping. This means you work less, as the knife works for you. (via Cutlery and More)

John Boos & Co. Cutting Board

First to recommend

Description

Let it be a whole slab of wood, rather than pieced together. This way you can abuse it. Submerge it in soapy water to clean, as a solid piece of wood will not come apart. As for chopping, nothing feels like wood. Marble or glass: never! And acrylic grabs the knife. (via Sur La Table)

Le Creuset 4-1/2-Quart Soup Pot

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

This is the best pot—the best shape see how the sides slope out? This is good, you can see what you are cooking. Follow the Goldilocks principle—you don't want a pot to bog or to small. This one is just right! Also, it is enameled cast iron. Cast iron distributes heat very evenly and well, enameled means easy cleaning! This pot goes right from stovetop to oven to table. It is costly but, like the Prada of Knives, it lasts your life so you buy it one time. Plus, it looks really sexy. (via Amazon.com)

Microplane 12 Inch Zester

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

Make your life a little zestier. Orange, lemon or lime zest is very yummy in marinades, sauces, deserts. The peel of the fruit has essential oils, sweet flvor and vitamins. But please, throw away the knuckle eating low-producing zesters of yesteryear. The mircoplane rocks out! Also good for Parmesan cheese and ginger. (via Cooking.com)

Vintage Manual Citrus Press

First to recommend

Description

To easily get juice from limes, lemons and oranges, a citrus press works a charm. It filters the seeds for you. But get enameled cast iron. Very sturdy and the acid of cirtus won't corrode the metal, since it is enameled. (via Williams Sonoma)

OXO Good Grips Swivel Peeler

6 people recommended this item

Description

A veggie peeler should be short and fat (rather than long and skiny), so the blade is articulated. That means you can get around a mango in one go. (via Cooking.com)

Nielsen Massey Vanilla Paste

7 people recommended this item

Description

There is just no substitute for the real thing. Good vanilla beans can be a little (OK, a lot) expensive, but the pure flavor that comes from using the seed from a vanilla bean is just amazing compared to extracts.
