Crazy Cool Thick Curly Hair Guide - a list by 2000great

Options for This Page

About this list:

If you have an out of control curly mane to tame, this one's for you! THE PROS: No balding ever! Forget hours of flat-ironing, just wash, scrunch and go. No hair extensions. Curly hair adds a fun flirty persona. Strangers oooh and ahhhh with hair envy often. THE CONS: So thick it can be hot and overwhelming. Takes forever to dry. If the proper hair accoutrements aren't applied, a bad hair day is sure to follow. Combing is trying and shedding occurs. When cut shorter, waking up with an afro is common.

Qualifications:

If you are like me and have an out of control mane to tame..

Biosilk Silk Therapy

10 people recommended this item

Description

A solid foundation is the essential beginning to all good things. Hair is no different. Straight, wavy and especially curly hair can all benefit from this miracle serum (that Allure readers named a best product) that makes all dry hair thick or thin turn silky and shiny while eliminating the frizz.

First off, why is some hair curly and some hair straight? The hair follicle shape! A round follicle will produce straight hair. A follicle that is oval in shape will produce wavy hair. Curly hair occurs when the shape of the follicle is flat. Curly hair is dry by nature, strong and coarse. We need all the silky shiny moisture we can get!

Biosilk Serum contains concentrated silk, fortified with botanicals and Vitamin E, with added sunscreen and can be used on wet or dry hair. For us curly girls, use this while wet. It should be the second thing you put into your hair, after some leave-in conditioner.

Redken All-Soft Conditioner

3 people recommended this item

Description

Redken All Soft Conditioner is perfect for dry, brittle, wiry, coarse and curly hair. With avocado oil, proteins and amino acids to smooth, condition and seal in moisture even the most thirsty dry curly hair will come out soft.

As naturally curly hair is by its nature constantly dehydrated, this conditioner does exactly what it promises! It detangles, nourishes, smooths, hydrates and gets rid of frizz for even the most difficult hair.

A small dab also doubles as an excellent leave-in conditioner for thick curly hair.

Terax Crema Conditioner

First to recommend

Description

Made in Italy, this conditioner really knows how to give life to the dullest, driest hair. It works wonders by detangling and softening even the toughest coarse curly hair.

This wonderful product can also double as a leave-in conditioner and has a nice scent made of rice flower, shea, bergamot, and juniper.

Gentle enough to use daily without heavy build up. Crema opens the cuticle to allow moisture to penetrate the hair, leaving it soft and silky. It also restores split ends, breakage, and dryness associated with chemical treatments and environmental damage and combats static electricity and frizziness.

Curly-haired girls do well to switch out products they work with every other week to keep hair from build up, getting dull and immune to treatments. Terax Crema is one product that always works no matter how long you use it consecutively.

HASK Pure Shine Spray-On Luminator

First to recommend

Description

This inexpensive product, packs a big punch - at around $5 an instant glossy shine is only a few spritzes away...

Benefit: Helps eliminate frizzes and polishes hair's surface for a glass-like look and silky feel. Detangles and protects hair from heat damage when applied prior to heat styling. Enhances hair color, coats and seals hair cuticle and helps protect hair damage due to sun & harsh chemicals.

HASK Pure Shine Spray-On Luminator works well on all hair types, but really works great with tired dry curly hair. I recommend spraying it on dry hair, to give new life but can also be used on wet hair to control fly-away frizz.

Vidal Sassoon Ionic Soft Bonnet Hair Dryer

First to recommend

Description

While you relax with your favorite fashion mag, your hair will be drying to a healthy shine in the Vidal Sassoon Soft Bonnet Dryer. Three heat settings make the dryer great for any hair type: high heat for thick or curly, moderate for medium/fine and low heat for chemically treated hair. The bonnet emits negative ions that help infuse moisture into each strand, and a cold-shot function to set curls and waves. Includes air hose, plastic bonnet, cord storage and carrying case.

Thick curly-haired girls know basic hair maintenance can be overwhelming and it can literally take an entire day to fully dry on its own.

If air drying takes too long and using a hair diffuser makes your hair look bigger than your favorite 80's rock band...seriously check out this Vidal Sassoon Ionic Soft Bonnet Hair Dryer. It's awesome!

Matrix Biolage Gelee 13.5 oz.

First to recommend

Description

If you are looking for a firm holding product that will give your curls a lot of definition, I can honestly recommend Matric Biolage Gelee. It will not dry out your hair, it adds a firm control, body and shine.

Use it on wet or dry hair. If used on wet hair, put a dab in the palm and then twist product into tendrils by wrapping hair around a finger and then scrunch. This will dry a little slightly crunchy for a wet look, but once dry scrunch hair again and product softens into a natural curly bounce.

Curly hair will love this product!

Your poor parched hair! It is so dry and tangly you can’t seem to get a comb through it! Put the pick down and instead pick up Ecoly Tri-Wheat Leave-In Conditioner & Detangler Spray.
