DIY mechanical music box

Description
Suddenly I have the urge to get one of these and make it play "Cum on feel the noize."
A great gift for someone you know who enjoys making music.
You can get additional paper inserts once you run out or get sick of Quiet Riot. (via Shelterrific)

Funky16Corners music blog

Description
Funky16Corners is a music blog filled to the brim with funk. It has a wonderful archive of podcasts in the form of mixed mp3 as well as the individual songs as a zipped archive.
I've been downloading music and listening to it at work. This is great driving music, great working music and great workout music. Boogie-ing might result. These are not the same songs you hear over and over again, they are the result of tireless searching in record stores for great vinyl.

Description
Sometimes it just goes in one ear and out the other. Sometimes it is a pig. Pig ear phones may just be the solution to the problem of finding a birthday present for your best friend, or your sister, or the office secret santa.

Atout...Point De Vue: Soon E Mc

Description
Jazz-soaked hip hop from France. My French-Algerian former coworker used to make fun of me for liking this old album. He'd moved onto the bigger and better artists: eminem and so on. I like this album quite a bit.

Prose Combat: MC Solaar
First to recommend
Description
French rap can be a hard sell. MC Solaar's music is toward the jazz end of the spectrum of rap. He has something to say in this album and says it well whether it be politics, dissing his competitors, or "the ends justify the means."

At Folsom Prison & San Quentin: Johnny Cash

Description
You can't not like Johnny Cash, the man in black. He sings ballads about murders and a boy named Sue, and that ring of fire. This album is a collection of two concerts in two prisons, San Quentin and Folsom, so he's singing about things that have personal meaning to his audience.

High Voltage: AC/DC

Description
Okay, so I like AC/DC. They're having fun playing slightly metal rock & roll. I find myself grinning and singing along when their tracks come on the iPod at work.
Good old fashioned metal fun.

The Definitive Collection: John Lee Hooker: Music

Description
John Lee Hooker. Sometimes it is easy to write a recommendation. Sometimes not so easy. I can't put into words the way this man plays and sings. Listen to him, it is worth it.

Viva! La Woman: Cibo Matto: Music

Description
A long ago boyfriend introduced me to Cibo Matto while driving around DC in his car. He made me a mix tape including the playful silly music of Cibo Matto and I soon after bought the CD. I've been listening to it ever since.

The Complete Goldberg Variations (1955 & 1981): Johann Sebastian Bach,Glenn Gould

Description
Glen Gould's two recordings of the Goldberg variations are stunning. They're not something you can really listen to as background music because they'll captivate you.
