Yoshikane Vegetable Knife - Nakiri
First to recommend
Description
Yoshikane has been getting lots of love around the knife forums and for good reason. This 6.5" Nikiri, or vegtable knife, is perfect for most of your cooking needs. I use my Nikiri for all vegetable prep work and a Satoku for everythign else. I rarely use my paring and almost never the petty. The hammered finish is beautiful and the HRC 64 rating means a tough steel that can hold a fine edge.

Stowa Antea 390
First to recommend
Description
Besides Switzerland, Japan and Germany are watch powerhouses as well. The later makes some amazing timepieces in both the tool and dress categories. These Stowa automatic watches have bled hands, a classic no frills dial and a date at the 6'oclock region rather than the classic 3. A simple silver case with sharp lines and a classic black leather band rounds out what I'd call a perfect segway piece for the newcomer.

Sous Vide Cooking Controller
First to recommend
Description
Invented and used decades ago in France, sous vide cooking was generally limited to cutting edge restaurants and large scale cook-and-hold productions (banquet halls, airlines, etc).
With laboratory immersion circulators widely available, prices have been dropping but it still costs a small fortune for Joe Consumer to get into the game. With a PID controller such as this from Auber Instruments, you can poach at home by simply pairing it with a rice cooker or crock pot, some knowhow, and time.

Description
From the folks that brought you the SoundBridge, the Roku Netflix Player allows anyone with a $9+ Netflix account to stream unlimited content from their library of over 10,000 titles. The box is the size of a Mac Mini or five stacked CD jewel cases. It has HDMI, Ethernet and wireless connections and streams almost instantly.

Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel

Description
A game that can convince me to blow off 8 months of accumulated dust on my Wii is a winner. Here's a tip, while the wheel is cute and actually pretty nice, you'll get the best driving precision with the standard wiimote + nunchuck combo.

Ultravac 250 Vacuum Packaging Machine
First to recommend
Description
Sure I have a FoodSaver but it's lame compared to this beast. It's a chamber vacuum machine. What does that mean? Well how about putting in a jar or dish with a bubble filled solution and watch the air get sucked right out of it? It means the difference between continuing on with your dish immediately or having to wait overnight for the bubbles to clear.
It also happens to be great for sous vide too!

M-Audio MicroTrack II Portable Digital Recorder
First to recommend
Description
I wasn't aware but there's this whole underground community of fans that record entire concerts and make them available online. Generally this is discouraged but some artists (like Jason Mraz and I believe Dave Matthews) encourage and support this. Don't be a loser recording shows and taking pictures on your cell phone. Bring this bad boy next time you are at a concert and deliver those who didn't attend a great experience. (via Cool Hunting)

Singlepower Audio PPX-6SN7 Tube Amplifier
First to recommend
Description
I was among the first to purchase one of the Singlepower Audio tube amps. The version I have is a slightly modified PPX3 which is their base model. This one is a step up and takes 6SN7 tubes instead of the cheaper 6CG7 mine takes. It's expertly constructed and it drives headphones (even the HD600's) very well. I have never had any problems with it. If I did, I know the support is excellent.
