I think Television Without Pity put it best when they said that America has had a weird love affair and obsession with Japan since the mid eighties. One of the latest things to come over is the Lolita trend. Not Lolita like the book, but a return to prim, proper and innocence. It's just plain fun. I like to have a handful of items in my wardrobe to work into daily wear, or to go all out every so often. A dress like this is nice, because if you remove the detachable bows it's a decent summer dress, but paired with the appropriate items it can also go full out Lolita

Fresh out of Lewis Carroll's fabulous tale this apron is a great accessory for your next tea party. Full enough to fit over a full lolita skirt and with a nice solid ruffle, this apron works well for Lolitas as well as those who dabble in Victorian fashions.

Pink Hair Extension

Description

I once had pink hair, it was a lot of work to keep up. A lot of work. It involved bleaching and then coloring with two different types of color and then doing all over again the next week. When I stopped my hair hated me. But occasionally I miss the pink. And when I miss the pink I look for alternatives, I go to convention every year where non standard hair colors are always in style and so when I see something like this, something that can make my hair pink without killing and let my hair go back to brown the next day, you know I want it.

Corset and waist cinchers really add a lo to a gothic lolita or just plain gothic outift. I like the deep teal of this corset as well as the fact it'll look stunning over a shirt. Just the thing to bring a little restriction and fun to your gothic look.

Capricious Black Velvet Tea Jacket

Call me a little crazy, but I'd wear this jacket in with my normal clothes (can't you see it with a pair of jeans and something lacy or your favorite lbd?), but then I try to use my wardrobe for multiple purposes. For Lolita wear I think this would be great for gothic or elegant lolitas but a little dark for sweet lolitas.

Want a Lolita dress that easily switches from summer to winter? This dress is amazing for that. You could wear it all by it's lonesome, with a short sleeves shirt or a long sleeves blouse...all look equally good. I like the almost baby doll empire waist. This dress is more of an elegant Lolita look, but still could be made gothic with the right accessories.

As much as I love Lolita fashions, I get a little overwhelmed with the sheer amount of frills. This long sleeved blouse with lace at the collar and cuffs is perfect for layering. After all, the best outfit doesn't overwhelm, but present a cohesive whole.

I found this cardigan on an elegant lolita site and while it certainly would fit in well in the world of lolita fashion, I can see myself wearing it elsewhere, over a casual floral skirt or even a pair of jeans (with the right shirt of course). But then I've always liked ruffles and I've always love those long sleeves.

This dress would probably either fall under country lolita or perhaps elegant lolita (though it is printed so I hesitate slightly to call it that). Either way it is a glorious sundress with wonderful print and beautiful detailing. In addition to being a sundress, you could probably also make it a nice jumper by adding a simple blouse.

Doesn't it just look perfect for summer? When I first saw this dress I loved it a little. Looking at it more now I've decided it's the quintessential summer dress. It has ruffles, lacing, skinny straps and tiers...perfect for a day in the park or a day near the sea.

Description

This cape kind of reminds me of the one Blair wore on 'Roman Holiday' when she was skating. In addition to being awesome in general, it's also good for lolita wear (especially in this upcoming fall). I like the subdued tones in the plaid and the charming little black bow. All in all something that can be worn in your lolita wear and with your other clothes as well.

For a rather fun take on sweet or classic lolita, I'm loving this dress set. It's a house of cards! With charming cards on the skirt and the diamond, heart, spade and ace on the shoulder. I come in black and an assortment of other colors if black is a bit to forward for you.

So, one of the things I try to keep in mind when purchasing Lolita wear, is whether or not I can work it into another outfit. Some things are Lolita only, but sometimes, usually with blouses or coats, I can wear items to work or with my favorite black dress or just out. Call me crazy, but I think I might actually be able to wear this skirt to work. It's highwaisted with a mermaid flare and the cutest little bow accents.

Hats, a girl can never have to many. I'm in love with this navy hat. It has ribbon, it has netting and it has a bow...to top it off it's black. There is nothing not to love! Red Polka Dot Dress

Description

This dress screams summer to me, but then I've always had a thing for polka dots. It's actually a dress et with a skirt and corset top, but I love how it looks as a dress. From the lacy tiers and frills to the ribbon and sheer boldness of the red polka dot, it fantastic. There is also a baby pink and baby blue version if that's more your speed, but I've never been scared away by red.

I like the high waist of this dress, makes it seem very baby doll-esque. Perfect for the Sweet Lolita. A bow sits right below the chest and there is a cute lace up on the top of the dress. The print is child like without being childish and the back of the dress lets a little bit of white peek out.

Gingham, cherries and strawberries combine for this glorious summer print sundress. Perfect for a picnic or fair it's absolutely adorable. I really like the larger cherry and strawberry trim around the bottom, the little ribbon bow on the front and comfortable back.

For the classic, sweet and country lolitas I'm not a big fan of the little hats (that's what headbands are for after all!) But, for Gothic Lolitas I think hats, when applied judiciously can be an excellent style decision. And this hat is a handmade dream. It's high quality, has netting and a plume of feathers. It'll definitely draw the right kind of attention to your look

An outfit just isn't an outfit without jewelry. And this Victorian mourning choker will complete a wide variety of outfits, from the modern and sleek to the gothic and gothic lolita.
