Nerf six shooter
First to recommend
Description
This isn't the most innovative toy in the world. I have two of them in my living room and they get a lot of use. It is exhilarating to run around shooting these suction darts at your friends, but the best way to use them is to shoot them at the television. The suction cups on the end of the darts stick to any smooth surface including windows, your television and some walls or cabinets. Since they are light and made of Nerf, you don't have to worry about them breaking your fragile things - although I wouldn't shoot them at someone's face.
I got a huge amount of use out of this during the presidential elections and continue to do so while watching the evening news as well as football games on Sundays. Very cathartic.

Sanford Sharpie Industrial Markers
First to recommend
Description
Regular sharpies are great, but industrial sharpies are the best thing ever. They aren't soluble in ethanol, they take longer to wash off of skin, and deal well with extreme temperature. I constantly walk around with one or more of these in my back pocket, probably making people nervous that I'm going to start tagging at any moment.
I use these in lab to label things that are going to be sprayed with 70% ethanol (great for tissue culture), or are going into the liquid nitrogen freezer, or high use items that would get their labels rubbed off easily.
At home you can use them to label just about anything, or draw something cool, or go ahead and tag if you want. Just be careful because the only thing that removes their ink really well is acetone (nail polish remover) and that will melt some kinds of plastic.

Maglite flashlights

Description
Magliite flashlights are the best. They are relatively indestructible, bright, and the LED version is easy on batteries. You should have one in the house for blackouts and in the car for that horrible realization that you have to change the tire on a dark rainy night. Larger Maglites can be used as a club in the event of a scarier emergency.
Of course they can also be used to read under the blankets in the middle of the night, or make shadow puppets on the wall.

CLIPS Frame with clips
First to recommend
Description
I have two of these in my apartment. I change the pictures in one on a monthly basis. The clips are easy to remove and the frame is easy to put together. The size of the openings for the pictures is almost exactly postcard size, so I tend to swap in strange postcards that my dad sends me.
For a four dollar frame, it looks pretty nice. It comes with two mats - one with four openings, pictured above, and another with three openings, in landscape orientation.
Put in photographs, postcards, random bits of ephemera.
