About this list:

I love bubble gum. You might call me a Bubblegumologist. I am definitely a researcher in the field as I will try any bubble gum put before me. No other gum matches bubble gum. My goal is to make the definitive list of bubble gum. Please help by adding more bubble gum to the site and tag it "bubble gum"

Qualifications:

Years of chewing. Many packs a day for some of that time.

Description

I LOVE bubble gum. I am somewhat of a bubble gum connoisseur. A few years ago my dentist forbade me from chewing gum. DEVASTATION!!!

Well, I cheat...a little. I chew when I fly. It is one of my guilty pleasures (that and daily coffee, of course). You can imagine that I'm not about to waste my rare chewing with just any old gum. Nope, I go for bubble gum and I go straight for the hard core gum. No sugar free gum for me. No fresh breath, namby pamby gum. Nope, pure, unadulterated bubble gum. Oh, and no flavors. Bubble gum is like beer: No additives, please.

As a connoisseur I had to try every type of bubble gum known to western (wo)man. It took a lot of flights (yes, and some cheating in the car) but I found a winner...hands down.

Bazooka and Double Bubble are made stale from the minute they roll off the production line. They seem proud to be stale. And they lose their flavor quickly. Worse, they taste terrible when they lose their flavor.

Carefree et al: Nope, I want sugar when I chew and these don't offer any real chewing. To thin.

Big League Chew: Jim Bouton was a great pitcher and a better gum man. While Big League Chew stands up to most of my testing, I don't like that it goes in pink and comes out gray. Ewwwww. I don't like the lack of portioning (I always wind up with too much). A little rubbery but overall a good chew. I like it in case I can't find Bubble Yum.

That leaves Bubble Yum and Bubblicious. No contest. Bubblicious just doesn't have the taste or consistency to compete on the same chewing teeth as Bubble Yum.

Bubble Yum offers the perfect chewing satisfaction.

[Note: The red dye number 2 scare of the 1970'swas ridiculous and I am glad that over 1.3 billion pieces of Bubble Yum are now chewed each year in the United States.]

Bazooka Bubble Gum

First to recommend

Description

Bazooka bubble gum is pure nostalgia. Bazooka isn't the best gum. It's a little hard and loses its taste quickly. That said, sometimes you just want to dig your teeth into gum that is as hard as Bazooka.

Plus, you get a Bazooka Joe comic with every piece. I haven't sent any in to get a prize in years. If you know what they send back, please add it in your recommendation.

Dubble Bubble Gum

First to recommend

Description

Tried and true, Dubble Bubble is a reliable gum to remind me of childhood. While Bubble Yum remains my favorite gum, I'll pick up a piece of Dubble Bubble every now and again. It is a little too hard (along with Bazooka) and the flavor turns (it usually goes from good to bad with no neutral taste) pretty quickly.
If you want a quick chew, Dubble Bubble can fill the ticket.

Charms Blow Pop

3 people recommended this item

Description

Yes, Charms Blow Pops are a fantastic candy. The Blow Pops with the chocolate center are good as well but the Blow Pops with the gum inside are, for a gumaholic, a fantastic treat.

I agree that grape and watermelon are the best flavors but am horrified that anyone would bite into a Blow Pop and chew the candy and gum together. Remember the owl who asked "How many licks does it take?" Well, he may have bit at the end but it was to demonstrate the wrong way to eat a Blow Pop.

Buy some now and see what you do. (via gordon)

It's a Boy Bubble Gum Cigars

First to recommend

Description

What can be more manly (and politically correct and smoke-free) than "It's a Boy" bubble gum cigars? Yes, when my son was born, I handed them out.

As for gum quality, it's not the best. And blue isn't the most appetizing color for gum. But when it comes to getting the message across and having some fun, nothing says I'm proud to be a father (yes, or mother) than blue "It's a boy" bubble gum cigars!
