About this list:

My Holiday Shopping List for the Not Quite Crunchy Parent - None of the toys on this list make the top ten lists, so you won’t have to stand in line! All of these toys promote open-ended creative play and unless you have very crunchy friends, you won’t duplicate something they already have.

Medieval Cloaks - HearthSong

Description

Though I like the cloaks, the soft sword shown here is the best. Kids can actually use this sword without destroying furniture or hurting each other.

Playmobil Swimming Pool

Description

More Playmobil. I try to add modern family figures to my DS's collection as a break from pirates, knights and workers. Some of Playmobil's offerings are quite unique and often, for Americans, hilarious.

Clutching toy Bella

2 people recommended this item

Description

It's such a simple toy, but I can't help but being drawn to the clean, classic design of this clutching toy. It's got all the right colors for babies in development, and it really edits down the noise a lot of toys can have with too much going on. Great for babies 6 months+ who are starting to use their hands and playing by themselves. (via mcmilker)

LEGO 3+ Basic Bulk Set

Description

I like Legos. I don't like sets. A pile of blocks encourages creativity and allows the child to reuse them over and over - which tends to happen less if he or she has just spent an hour following the detailed directions.
