Apple - Time Capsule
17 people recommended this item
Description
Even though I've never had a Mac crash on me, I use Time Capsule on a regular basis. As a writer I've lost plenty of precious hours recreating lost chapters and articles (the two times I lost something on a Mac were user errors--accidentally renaming an open file and accidentally deleting a folder MINUTES before my husband performed an OS upgrade).
Whenever my computer is plugged in, I have Time Capsule running. I know insanity can happen, but I feel a lot better with this insurance against my personal glitches! (via whosdiary)

Chumby
22 people recommended this item
Description
I first saw the chumby on Wired.com's review of gadgetry that's off the beaten path. With its amazing range of useful stuff, radio, alarm clock, media player, internet thingy and probably the coolest internet ready device ever.
First, some tech specs:
64 MB NAND FLASH ROM
320x240 3.5" TFT LCD with LED backlighting
Touchscreen input
Stereo 2W speakers with hardware mute
Headphone output with headphone presence detection
Microphone input with programmable AGC
Squeeze sensor
3-axis Accelerometer (+/-2g range @ 12 bits resolution)
Three USB 2.0 full-speed
802.11g connectivity
Put chumby by your bed and wake up to your music, either the radio or internet music like shoutcast. Get your RSS info ready, with all the information you need before you even get out of bed.
There's way too much stuff to talk about the Chumby, because it's got a loyal following of modders, hackers and programmers. Yes!! there are widgets and a lot of ways to personalize and modify your Chumby.
It's a strange name, but like TiVo, it's one of those things that you never knew you needed until you got one.

This would be a GREAT desk decoration, and it's useful too! I wonder what the sound quality is for these, but I bet they're still 100x better than the ones that came in the box! I'd love to carry these around when traveling so I can see people's reaction to these!
