"These are Marxist fanatics, not normal people. They do not reason they way you reason, General Black. They're not motivated by human emotions such as rage and pity. They are calculating machines. They will look at the balance sheet, and they will see they cannot win."
"Then you suggest doing what?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"The Russians will surrender, and the threat of Communism will be over, forever."

The City of Lost Children

Description
Directors Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet guide us through a surreal steampunk version of France where a mad scientist called Krank is aging prematurely because he cannot dream. Attempting to self-medicate this Progeria-like condition, he encourages his henchmen, the "Cyclops," to steal children from the streets, dragging them back to his oil rig lair off the coast, so that he, in turn, may steal their dreams. The visual effects and Rube Goldberg sequences characteristic of Jeunet's style add a sense of whimsy and magic to this dark fairy tale landscape. Highlights: violent trance-inducing circus fleas, costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier, and a brilliantly melancholy dark carnival score by Angelo Badalamenti, featuring vocals by Marianne Faithful on "Who Will Take My Dreams Away?"

Description
During a recession in a dystopian Japan, 800,000 unruly students boycott school, so the adults decide to teach them a lesson, Highlander-style - they put each middle school class on lock down on an island, provide them with weapons, tell them that they must kill each other, and reward the lone survivor. Some go it alone, and some work in teams to survive, but the question with the most resonance appears boldly in the tagline, "Could you kill your best friend?"

Description
Forget the movie. It's like highlights of the best scenes, and nothing more. For REAL depth and danger, look inside the g.n. This isn't about revolution; it's about **anarchy**, about no-government vs. ANY government...and with a deft, cold stroke, Moore paints a future England even more bleak than it is today, utterly brought to half-life (as far as it can manage) by David Lloyd's amazing art. Hard to bleieve this was a middle-of-the-book serial in a British black-and-white anthology comic back in The Day; it reads as if it was built in a single, nightmarish session...crammed with hard things to say.

Description
"Don't mock me my friend. It's a condition of mental divergence. I find myself on the planet Ogo, part of an intellectual elite, preparing to subjugate the barbarian hordes on Pluto. But even though this is a totally convincing reality for me in every way, nevertheless Ogo is actually a construct of my psyche. I am mentally divergent, in that I am escaping certain unnamed realities that plague my life here. When I stop going there, I will be well. Are you also divergent, friend?"

So - the Soviets - they nuke the U.S. in 1957. And then the Red Army takes over the U.S. wasteland except for one surviving colony of capitalism called "Lost Vegas."
Elvis Presley, the King of Lost Vegas (because - duh - who else would be king of Lost Vegas), dies. So, Buddy Holly and a pint-sized sidekick he reluctantly picks up along the way set out across post-apocalyptic Red America, samurai swords a-blazin', so that Buddy can stake his claim to the Vegas throne.
"You still there? Cross that line, kid, I'll cut your little teddy bear in half. Last kid that crossed that line, I had to summon up the Spinach Monster with my rock 'n' roll magic. The Spinach Monster grabbed him, pulled him underground and made him eat spinach all day. Rumor has it, kid... he's still there."
