I love Sharpies for their functionality. I use them at work every day and I always keep a few of them at home just in case.

Stainless steel sharpies use an insert inside a stainless steel body - you can get replacements for a bit more than $2.

There's something awesome about this class of highbrow stainless and lowbrow sharpie functionality.

I want one.

I work in a building with a lot of metal walls. This mainly spherical light lets you position it to shine in any direction, a boon to someone trying to do work on something in a small or dark area, like the back of the vacuum pump, or your car. (via Lifehacker)

I was dithering over getting this for someone and called up a friend of mine to ask him if it was a good gift for a guy. His immediate response was to revert to being about six and saying "I want one too!"

I guess I chose well. You see people on the subway with these all the time; they're a small handheld gaming system that is eminently portable and eminently distracting. There are hundreds of games available for them which makes them good for just about anyone.

Atheist Christmas Cards : Order of St. Nick's Alternative Greeting Cards

I spent a good chunk of time looking for holiday cards that were neither Christmas or Hannukah themed. I have friends and relatives who are Christian, Jewish, Moslem and atheist.

I wish I had known about the Order of St. Nick. They have nice atheist cards for your atheist friends. And they're pretty funny too.

As a nice Jewish girl I'm not supposed to be recommending Christmas trees to my goyishe friends, but I'm going to do it anyway. This cardboard tree will be fun to put together and would fit nicely in your modern apartment.

You could also spray paint it orange as someone nearby mentioned.
